Subject: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: Helen Date: 08 May 99 - 08:12 PM Hi Max, and udder Mudders, Could we have a date range filter on the forum search? I notice a *lot* of people are saying that their forum searches are timing out and getting error messages so if we could have a filter based on dates e.g. before/after/between certain dates (similar to the filter on the threads where we can say 1 Day, 3 Days, etc) it might fix the problem. Then if we wanted to search all of the threads way back to the beginning we could work our way backwards or forwards slowly by narrowing down the search into manageable chunks. What do you reckon? Is it possible/feasible? How many more T-shirts do we have to buy to make it happen? Thanx for everything you do, Max. Helen |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: Joe Offer Date: 09 May 99 - 04:20 PM I think there is a date-range filter available in an experimental version of the 'Cat that Max put out a few months ago. I don't have my bookmarks here at the library, but maybe somebody else can find it and paste it in here for you. -Joe Offer, on a library computer in Lakewook, Colorado- |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: Joe Offer Date: 10 May 99 - 08:27 PM The date-range filter was one of Max's Mad Experiments, and he may have disabled it for reasons unknown to us mortals. I believes he plans to have such a filter on the Bigger and Better 'Cat that should be online any time now. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: CHarlie Baum Date: 10 May 99 - 09:23 PM When we were in the woods of Virginia a couple of weekends ago, Max was noting that he set up a search system for a database that then contained about 20,000 messages, but that there are already in excess of 60,000 essages today, and the system he set up simply can't handle it--it times out before the search is through. He's got a revised search engine up his sleeve and is geeting ready to implement it soon, but I guess soon isn't yet. --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: katlaughing Date: 10 May 99 - 11:36 PM I would think that if people could narrow their searches, it would help. Although, I've had no trouble putting in juts my name and getting a listing of everything I've posted to, but that is only six months, as that is when I came on. I was able to do the same with a couple of other people's names who've been here longer, though. Anyway, don't know if being more specific would help or not, but it might be worth a try. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: alison Date: 11 May 99 - 01:27 AM Yes Kat, It works if you haven't been here for all that long. Try doing a search for Joe Offer and see what happens..... I've been here a few years too... and I time out trying to find things I know I've replied to in the past. Slainte alison |

Subject: RE: Can we have date-range filter on forum search From: Joe Offer Date: 18 May 04 - 07:15 PM Note that Jeff has changed the Search Engine so that you now have the ability to display messages in date order. I think it's a handy feature. The default search provided by ColdFusion is a "relevance search," but I've yet to discover the logic in that method of sorting. Thanks, Jeff. -Joe Offer- |
