Subject: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 08 May 99 - 09:47 PM That just came to mind as a potentially good thread discussion...I now need to go and consider the question myself. How about anyone else? SingsIrish (aka Mary Kate) |

Subject: RE: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: katlaughing Date: 08 May 99 - 11:54 PM Scarlett O'Hara's always been my hero(ine)! And, Molly Brown...and Thelma & Louise (my middle name, even!), and...mmmmmm, let's see....just about any strong-willed woman you could name. As for my life and a movie parallel, well...Hollywood's not seen material enough to explore my life!My mom always said I'd lived SO much for so young. I tell people I am glad I got an early start and am where I am at now. katlaughing, at herself |
Subject: RE: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: Joe Offer Date: 09 May 99 - 03:35 PM Well, I've always identified with Browning's poem, "Pippa Passes." I'll paste in the chorus below, but you'll have to find the whole work to get the whole story. -Joe Offer- The year's at the spring |

Subject: RE: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 10 May 99 - 12:40 PM I suppose, with the way the last year has gone, I'd say a touch of "84 Charing Cross Road" together with the email aspect only of "You've got mail" adding the unique romance of "Bridges of Madison County"--though not to the degree in Bridges... Now Scarlett O'Hara is one strong character that I've always admired! Though I don't totally agree with some of her decisions, I like her strength and determination. Have towork at getting a little more of that in me. SingsIrish |
Subject: RE: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: katlaughing Date: 10 May 99 - 01:09 PM Forgot to mention the 1950's Disney movie, "Thomasina". I had forgotten it because i was so young when I saw it. Watched it with a friend and my daughter a couple of years ago and realised I've spent my life longing for a little cottage in the woods, with all of the creatures, domestic and wild, and the ability to help them, even if the townphoak dd think me a "witch". I had no idea what a profound effect this movie had on me until I saw it this time. I really have tried to be that young woman in the woods all of my life. And, the cat, Thomasina, well, every cat that's owned me has had a bit of Thomasina in her/him. As far as books go, I've always identified with Jo March (Little Women), Jane Eyre, Sherlock Holmes, the real Beryl Markham (West with the Night), Madame Blavatsky, i.e. any rebel!) katlaughing, who also didn't agree with every decision of Scarlett's, but what passion! |

Subject: RE: Does your life parallel a book or movie?? From: Mick Lowe Date: 10 May 99 - 08:34 PM At this moment in time I'm feeling like Samuel Vimes Though I'm not one to give up hope And if it is that I should be In some romantic tragedy Pray it is not Obidiah Slope Actors are few and far and none That could portray me as one Holding all the hopes that I do And writers are yet to be born With a lifetime needed to learn Everything that I know to be true Thinking thus I think better yet You could capture me in some sketch Preserved the moment for prosperity Waterhouse or even Rossini Could they capture the real "me"? I shall leave that up to thee Mick
