Subject: Lyr Add: LONG ISLAND COWBOY (Red Molly) From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 23 Jan 08 - 07:33 PM LONG ISLAND COWBOY I always thought I'd live in Texas Where life goes by slow But I ended up in New York City Where I run, run, run and try to keep up CHORUS: What I need is some kind of Long Island cowboy Riding the L.I.E. like it was a rodeo Dirty jeans, pickup truck, Long Island cowboy I need a long ranger to carry me home All these city boys With their diamonds and roses No they can't win my wild heart I need an honest man Who can rope 'em and ride 'em Who knows when to let go And when to hold on with both hands CHORUS And he'd be rough around the edges O but I don't mind Just to have him call me sugar Would be sweeter than wine CHORUS --------------------------------------------------------------------- This song was written by the female trio Red Molly who have recorded it on their EPK album. The trio consists of Laurie McAllister, Abbie Gardner, & CarolAnn Solabello For those of you who are not familiar with the geography of the NYC metro area, the L.I.E. is the Long Island Expressway, a heavily trafficked commuter route between Nassau & Suffolk Counties which comprise Long Island, and NYC. It is known affectionately as the world's longest parking lot. You can hear the entire song on Red Molly's myspace site as well as a video on Youtube done at the Town Crier in Pawling,NY. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 24 Jan 08 - 03:11 PM About a year before they formed Red Molly, I first met Abbie Gardner (who wrote the song)in a guerilla showcase at NERFA. In a room of about 10 people, she shared "Long Island Cowboy" and I was knocked off my feet. With just her and her guitar she gave a performance that I will never forget. Check out Red Molly! Also, Abbie will be opening for Modern Man at the Hurdy Gurdy in Fair Lawn on March 11st. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 24 Jan 08 - 04:34 PM And also remember that RED MOLLY will be doing a house concert for us at The Borderline on Sunday afternoon, March 16th at 2 PM. If you are anywhere in the area of Rockland County you will not want to miss this one. SOL |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: oldhippie Date: 24 Jan 08 - 06:10 PM The above song would go well with "Subway Cowboy" by Christine Lavin. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 24 Jan 08 - 06:48 PM We are hoping to get Christine to do a house concert for us at The Borderline in November. We have been talking with her agent but at this time there is no firm date or arrangement. If anything concrete does materialize it will be posted here on Mudcat. SOL |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Jan 08 - 10:49 PM Is that "long ranger" or "Lone Ranger"? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Long Island Cowboy' (Red Molly) From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 26 Jan 08 - 06:52 PM The official lyrics as listed on their myspace site say "long ranger". You can hear them singing the song there as well. Go to www.myspace.com/redmolly Then you can determine for yourself which one it is. All 3 of these women are less than half my age so I doubt that they would have ever seen The Lone Ranger. The song is probably referring to a long bedded Ranger pickup truck. SOL |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Long Island Cowboy (Red Molly) From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 16 Mar 08 - 07:18 PM I spoke to Abbie Gardner, author of this song at today's Borderline house concert. "Lone Ranger" is the correct words. There is a typo on myspace lyrics that will be corrected as soon as she can get to a computer tonight. SOL |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Long Island Cowboy (Red Molly) From: GUEST,Joan Date: 26 Jun 14 - 02:16 PM It's also clearly "I won't mind" in the bridge, rather than "don't mind." |
