Subject: Review: Children's Folklore- Seuss Parodies From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 Jan 08 - 03:30 PM Children's Folklore- Seuss Parodies In "Children's Folklore Review," v. 29, 2006-2007 (pub. American Folklore Society), an article by C. W. Sullivan III discusses Seuss parodies on the internet- some "282,000 hits on google," October, 2006. One given mention is "Seuss Parodies," maintained by David Bednoe: Seuss Parodies This website has a few that might become known to children, but most are adult-oriented. Moreover, as Sullivan points out, the Bednoe site stops after the year 2000. Sullivan's article discusses the types of Seuss parody found in Bednoe and elsewhere, but the main point (to me) that Sullivan makes is that children use the internet and might find these parodies, and transmit them, orally or in net communications, to their friends. I did not find much evidence to support this speculation, but it is a possibility. All of the above aside, however, Mudcatters might be interested in these parodies, and enjoy googling a few of the websites. Some of the parodies are quite funny. Today, I found some 43,000 entries for Seuss parodies (less than 150 if quotation marks are used). |
