Does anyone know the lyrics from Alice in Wonderland, possibly circa the early 1930's (possibly earlier?)? The song contained references to Humpty Dumpty and the Queen of Hearts and this is what I can remember of the lyrics:

Alice in Wonderland, come let me take your hand,
you'll see the wonders pass,
looking through the looking glass
right there before your eyes I'll show you paradise.

Thanks!

Do you happen to know who any of the actors were?
Was it animated?

It wouldn't be from the Disney film (1951) would it? Here's a link to Amazon's listening-thingy which may help you identify it:

I don't remember Humpty Dumpty being in the Disney version? But, the Disney TweedleDum/TweedleDee were fairly egg-shaped..

That set me to thinking - because I didn't associate Humpty Dumpty with Alice in Wonderland either (and can't remember if he makes an appearance in the film or not).

But... guess what... as I Googled forth one fine May (OK: January) morning, what should I spy but this:

Ah! I've never seen a movie of "Through the Looking Glass" and it's been roughly a hundred years since I read it.
I have watched several versions of "Alice in Wonderland" and can't remember ever seeing Humpty Dumpty in them..but I have a vague suspicion that he MIGHT have appeared in some of the short nursery story cartoons. Those things were kind of weird about mixing characters.

I think WC Fields played Humpty Dumpty in the 1930s version.

Brilliant idea. They don't cast 'em like that anymore...

No, it wasn't the Disney movie, it was much earlier than that, possibly anywhere from the 30's - 40's, or maybe earlier (I'm a lot of help aren't I?!?) I'm not even certain that it came from a movie, but maybe from a stage play.

Looks like Humpty was also played by Jonathan Winters, Richard Woods, George Muschamp, Freddie Jones and Jimmy Durante?!

Now I'm wondering how I've managed to miss all those versions!

The only non-Disney lyrics I can find are one by Neil Sedaka and another that seems to be about Jesus.
Those probably aren't the ones you're looking for, huh?

The catalog at Indiana University has this description:

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Words and music by Charles Tobias, Jack Scholl, Murray Mencher.
New York: Leo. Feist Inc., copyright 1933

Performer: Baby Rosemarie

First Line: Alice in wonderland, come let me take your hand

Due to copyright restrictions, only a small image of the sheet music cover is viewable online.

However, I found a somewhat larger image of the sheet-music cover, along with this chorus, in a blog called My Vintage Generation:

CHORUS: Alice in Wonderland, come let me take your hand.
You'll see the wonders pass, Looking through the Looking Glass.
Right there before your eyes I'll show you Paradise.
So let me take your hand, Alice in Wonderland.

Paradise? The book is more an account of a nightmare really.

Melissa, there is an Alice thru the Looking Glass film which is fairly true to the book but an adult is cast as Alice. As this is Kate Beckinsale, that rather suits me!
There has never been a Wonderland film which hasn't mixed up the two books to my knowledge.
The film by Jan Svankmajer is nothing like the books but captures the spirit more than any of the usual brash squawking productions

I don't know them all...but here's what I remember

Alice in Wonderland, come let me take your hand
You'll see the wonders pass
Looking through the looking glass
Right there before your eyes
I'll show you paradise
So let me take your hand, Alice in Wonderland.

Look at the Mad Hatter laughing there
Watching the mock turtle cry
While Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee are fighting
Look said the cat to the Old March Hare
Oh my oh me me oh my
To watch the sleeping doormouse is exciting

Humpty Dumpty's on the wall
Happy Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty had a fall
Poor old Humpty

That's all I remember
