Long, long awaited!
I think it's been promised for at least ten years.
I've been looking forward to it so much I bought two!

Learning and playing the tunes is not quite so easy though. Recently and accurately described by someone else as "challenging"

John Offord brought an armful along to Musical Traditions the other night, to the delight of many.
Though if Anahata thinks the tunes are "challenging", I'd agree they're certainly that.
Approaching the "unplayable", actually.
But worth the effort of the hard work ahead.

I used to have a copy of the original and played regularly with John back in the 80s. Good to see that it's been republished as I can't find my copy any more.

An excellent book, and a must for anyone interested in English fiddle music(particularly in northwest music).Well done to John Offord for organisng this very werlcome new edition.
   Also,if you want to hear what some of his book's fabulous tunes sound like, may I politely recommend "The Beggar Boy of the North", Harbourtown's recent CD reissue of the old 70's Fellside LP. Seven or eight of the tunes on that record later appeared in John's excellent book. The performers, by the way, are listed as Greg Stephens and Crookfinger Jack.

There is a nice set of 3/2 hornpipes on Mawkins album, "The Fair Essex". I prefer playing them to 9/8 slip jigs for "Strip the Willow".

The 3/2 hornpipes from the original John of the Green and Cheshire Way can be found online here.

At the site, select "tunelist" to view the tunes. Select "Greeny abc" to download a set of abc's of the tunes.

Many current English Country dances are done to slow 3/2 tunes, and we are told that they are "hornpipes". The key is that they are really quite slow, and so, playable.

Maine Dog-- do you have more info on this? Like titles of the dances done to these?

I am getting into Contra dancing again after some years and our local group is doing some English country dancing. I hope to learn to call dances...
