Bah! We can never get any of these 'ere folk singers to Manchester... And considering that according to the Guardian, folk was invented in my local only a few weeks ago, that's scandalous!

in fact due to a bit of confusion about which day is actually Saturday (and cos we can't do gigs very far away from home on a school night) the Cumberland Arms gig has just moved to Sat 19th April.... 2008.

maybe we need lessons in how to use calendars? :)

and yes, we're playing at Walthamstow on this Sunday, see you there Diane?

And IVFDF (in Sheffield, 1st March)

And Loughborough (7-9th March)

And Doncaster actually, same weekend as Loughborough. It was news to me, as a Sheffield resident, that Doncaster had a folk festival but there you go :)

And before that (but after Walthamstow) we're shooting up to the lake district to finish recording the new CD, otherwise we won't have one to launch come April :)

btw if anybody can suggest a sunday night folk club situated vaguely between Devon and London who might be up for booking us on Sunday 26th October (2008) I'd be very very grateful...

cheers medears,
Jess A

Jess

You could try Readifolk, in Reading, tiny venue though. Another option is the Rising Sun in Stockcross, near Newbury Berks. The landlord is Keith Holloway, bass player with Random.

See you in Oxford though!

I'm sure Nigel that you could get them to come to Manchester, they have passports. They will be in Canada in August for both Millrace and Goderich Folk Festivals, plus a day of dance and song with Orange Peel Morris and anything else they can fit in, Yahhhhh!
(I was going to add that Helena plays in the group Jabadaw, who are based in Manchester, though when you go to their website it announces their last concert as June 30th 2007, so I won't).

So you guys had better have the new CD completed by then.
JohnB (a Mancunian Canadian, hey nobody's perfect)

Indeed, would be more than happy to play in Manchester should anybody wish to book us there! :)

we will indeed have the new CD ready for the summer John. It's getting it ready for April that's stressing us, we'll look damn silly to go on tour launching a CD with no CD... but I'm assured by Fellside that we still have time... off to the studio on Monday...

Other news: our Cleckheaton launch tour gig has now moved from 26th to 25th of April - so it is now on the Friday night. One day we'll stop changing our minds :)

Jess

I keep thinking I'm going to have to become a promoter to get to see the acts I want to see, but what with the full time job, the little'un and the other extra-curicular activities (and the fact I wouldn't necessarily know where to start and how to avoid ending up skint...), I'm not sure I could do it right now. I did once get as far as asking Mawkin:Causley how much they charged!

Now, if someone could post a simpleton's guide to putting gigs on, that might be start...

Cheers

Nigel

well... so far we've sold 5. To you... :)
Am hoping from various messages I've received that others are coming however - either buying their tickets on the night or they just haven't got around to it yet... either that or it'll be a very cosy concert :)
Looking forward to seeing you there!

We're putting the message round our various session mailing lists and I'll plug it tonight at the folk club. Have you got any flyers in electronic format? I could print some to hand out, if not I'll make some!

Best wishes

Pete

Very best of luck with the tour, y'all.

Intention is that me and th' lass will be able to make it to the Sheffield gig (by which time hopefully your mailout machine will have kicked in and sent me the cd - really looking forward to't, but Crux is a hell of an act to follow!).

The band was on good form last night. Hearing them singing unaccompanied live is quite a different to their albums. Maybe the room's acoustics were just right, I don't know, but the harmonies were rich, interesting and strong, the sound just seemed to leap off the "stage" and I'm glad I was there to hear them. The quality of their playing and the arrangements was impressive too and the banter was good, all members playing their part.

So, I heartily recommend them, if they are in your neighbourhood or close by, you will be in for a treat.

And the album? A worthy successor to Crux.

Re Sunday folk club.... You could try the Eldon House in Bristol - not a folk club, but they put on a lot of folk bands on Sundays - it's a tiny beautiful pub with a great atmosphere.

I have now had chance to listen to this record and it is great. I hope all those who have not yet done so will buy a copy!!

And spot the Grenoside jacket.

You can hear at least on song and possibly more on my radio show Friday April 11th.
