I passed through Kent and Bath this past October to visit with some of my online students - I even got to spend my last night in the UK as a guest of the Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

Yeah, it was just as cool as it sounds.

One of the good things about passing through the UK was that it brought a lot of my banjo and guitar students together for the first time - and after I went back home they started working together to create an online forum to swap banjo and guitar tips.

German folk musicians can contact Wolfgang over at The Banjo Blog From Kiel. Be sure to visit the folk jam at Flintbeker Bahnhof.

Since there seems to be almost no traffic on that forum except for the clawhammer banjo area, most people with an interest in UK folk would be better off using uk.music.folk on Usenet.

Still, the Flintbek session is worth going to. Every last Friday of the month as a rule. Let me know if you are in the area and intend to go.

Jack - the board seems to have only started in November. It takes time for people to find new web sites, so it's not surprising that we haven't been there before.
I have a tendency to forget there is anything on the net apart from Mudcat, so am pleased that someone has alerted me to another place that might have some discussions worth joining in.
Perhaps the people already there are into clawhammer banjo (so am I, but I like the general chattiness of Mudcat), but that is no reason for the rest of the folk world to not join in. There is plenty of room in cyberspace for people to visit as many folk web sites as they can find.

I saw your video reports on the visit, Patrick. No doubt at all that you enjoyed yourself.

BTW - I enjoy your song tutorials! Good use of technology. But I lost all my bookmarks for some reason and it ain't the easiest place to find ... I can find it on blip.tv but I can't find the site I used to access.

Jack, the one thing to keep in mind with the UK Folkies forum is that this is a group of people who are fairly new to music. It's going to take time for this group to develop.

I am proud as all getout of these folks - especially James and Colin, two of my students who are really coming along with the old five-string.
