No, no; 100 wasn't her name; 100 was her agent number; the next number assigned after agent 99.

Kendall - to answer your question.... it depends entirely upon the circumstances and me already having a husband is a major circumstance.

As for what others would do, I can't answer that, but the incidents of infidelity that abound would suggest that many people would.

Little Hawk - been there, done that... it's not always pretty. Still, I don't think he never knew how I felt about him and I was very young. Oddly enough, he was called Paul too.... my life is full of Pauls.

A few years after we ceased to date, Howard (feels weird to even type it; I never thought of him by that name) and I were cast opposite one another in a play in a regional theatre company. That was interesting, but I enjoyed it greatly and we seemed to get along fine.
When he married, his wedding reception was at the country club where my parents had been members for decades; his were members too. My father ran into him in the corridor, and Howard pulled him into the reception and introduced him to his new bride, saying 'This is ---- ----; he is the father of my first true love.' My father was entranced. His bride was quite cordial.

Kendall, I think the very nature of a 'crush' makes that quite unlikely. To me a 'crush' means an infatuation, but implies a certain lack of a mature relationship, either through normal youthful immaturity or through unattainability.
Don't recall my first crush; there have been so many, and at my (ahem) mature point in life I still develop crushes all too often. I do remember my first love. We were fifteen; his name was Howard and I never once called him that until after we split up. I called him a diminutive from his surname. We have not exactly stayed in touch but have met from time to time, and I have met his wife (he did not marry until pretty late in life). He is a professional and when we have seen each other we have much in common still; I suspect if we had met a decade or so later we would be together still.
I also can tell you my last love. He is Paul and we have been married 29 years.

Because that's how you feel when you look at them... like you can't breathe and you're being crushed. It's also the way you feel when the bastards tell you they're already married or don't fancy you....

It's usually a term used to describe a fancy for an unobtainable person - usually a film star or member of a pop band, a married friend or a fellow worker (never dip your pen in the company ink), someone you see often but cannot have.

Sometimes crushes can go on to be the real thing, but mostly they just last until the next handsome actor or gorgeous singer comes along. The trick is to recognise the fleeting nature of such and not let it suck you in completely. Many an angst ridden teenager has grown up to be a pragmatic adult who looks back and asks 'what did I see in him/her?!'

I think, "Given" name is more accurate than "Christian" name.

Anyway, did you ever notice that it is girls and women who use that word, "Crush"? What exactly does it mean?

The first girl I really loved was named Sheranne. Never really got anywhere with her, just spent two years trying to talk her into ditching the guy she was "in love" with. She finally dumped him but I was already engaged to someone else by then. Of all the things in my life that I sometimes wonder "what if" about, she's right at the top.

Brian. Met him in kindergarten, where we fell head-over-heels for each other and were "married" by one of the other kids. We had a "daughter" (another classmate) named Susan. When I came back to school after summer break and started first grade, Brian was gone. I've never forgotten him, and the loss has affected my failed relationships with men ever since!

My first love with a Christian name was Joanie, but my previous first love was Charlene--not her Christian name, but her first name. She was Jewish. I hope she is still alive and kicking and very happy. I last saw her in 1952 when we were in Jr. High School.

I don't think it could be called a "Christian" name. He was Jewish and his name, Arthur, appears to have a pre-Christian Keltic origin.

Alvin was my first. An older guy, three years older than I, friend of my brother's. I agonized over him. I was 7 or so.

Years later I dated him and confessed my early infatuation with him. He hadn't known; he had been infatuated with my older sister.

My first love was called Paul, though his real name was David. His dad was also David, so he got to use his second name. He was my best friends' brother, he was 15, I was 14 and it was a very hot, steamy summer.

He was madly into watersports and skateboarding (the first time round, work out the year from that!), and swam like a fish.

He went back to boarding school and we corresponded... but his parents decided they didn't like me and split us up, just before his birthday at Christmas.

We met up again by pure chance, about 3 years later and it was all still there... my insides did the somersault thing, he was just the same gorgeous, caring and wonderful boy who thought I was beautiful. We arranged to meet up one weekend but he couldn't make it. I got a letter from his sister. He'd been windsurfing and had come up under his sail. He'd hit his head on the boom, suffered a fit and drowned.

I still think of him, fairly often and I have his letters still... the day my sister ripped the stamps off them for 'a charity' was I think the day I finally realised I wouldn't cross the road to piss in her mouth if her teeth were on fire.

I might as well go on with a funny story about that 1st love of mine. As I said above. she & my sister are still best friends (after almost 30 yrs) & I still see her about quite often, mostly at local festivals that we both will perform at, so we do watch & support each others performance. She 1st met my wife when I was performing at a local festival, my sister came to see me & my wife was there so my sister sat with my wife. In comes 1st love & sits with my sister, next to my wife & they're all quite due to the performance while the clapping starts 1st love leans over to my wife, who she assumes know my sister but doesn't know who she is, & says "he was my 1st" my wifes leans towards her & says "he's my husband", I believe my sister started laughing 1st. My sister then introduces to the two of them to each other. They're both great women & think highly of each other too. I have to admire their taste in men.

My first was a christian & I still remember her name (slurp-rise), I was just 17. My 1st love came a yr later (pun not intended), she was Jewish & was my sister's best friend, still is, we bumb into each other quite often. She still looks the same, I don't. She's the cause of me being a folkie, she turned me. Hell of a banjo player too. Her name's no one business. She may lurk here.

Mason. And his birthday was September 9th. ;)

I was twelve. (Good Lord, was that just over twenty years ago?) We were at my aunt's house in Lake Tahoe for summer vacation, and my cousin Pete brought a couple of his friends up with him. They both asked me to go steady, and I had to choose. (Feast or famine, baby...story of my life. It helped that I was the only girl around for miles. ;))

Anyway, we fished for crawdads under the dock (and I think he would've kissed me then if Pete and Kenny hadn't kept poking their heads under to see if we were kissing *eyeroll*). He did finally kiss me, twice. When he left he gave me his teddy bear and left the Queen of Hearts playing card in my suitcase for me to find.

Our song was "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News.

P.S. A few years ago I googled him out of pure curiosity, and actually found him! I dropped him a quick email, to which he replied, "Wow, great to hear from you! I was just telling my wife about you the other day." :)

OK, I must go listen to cheesy 80s music now. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!

Trish

I used to fancy a girl name Trish

She had long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes

And her little mini-skirt that went swish-swish-swish

Trish Trish, she was a communist

I was an anarcho/syndicalist/ marxist/lenninist

Trish Trish, she liked Chairman Mao

But I could not get keen somehow

I said Trish - we can sort this out dialectically

Even tho you find me repulsive sexually

I got a little red book and a chinese hat

She said don't bother al, you still look a twat

Still I fancied that girl named Trish

With her long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes, her creamy white thighs

And a little mini-skirt goin' - swish-swish-swish

Some men dream to enslave the world

Some are enslaved by the love of a girl

Stalin and Mao trish and me

Keats and fanny, La Belle Dame sans merci

(lead break)

Trish I hope you found a niche

With a house and a car and a satellite dish

Deep in in my heart the Internationale is still played

And we are storming the barricades

I fancied a girl named Trish

With her long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes

And her little mini-skirt that went swish-swish-swish

And it happened just before Christmas 1972, just after Elvis brought out 'Always On My Mind'.
I wanted to die.

MBSLynne, a lot of compliments to you and your appearance compared to the past!
But most times the appearance of people is going to change the older they get. Need no wisdom to say this.
Personally, I do think that this depends upon genetic predisposition and/or personal lifestyle.

Sometimes it would be better not to meet a first love again.

On the other hand, it's good to read about that Catherine Jayne (see above) and her first love are still good friends. Don't know how Adam lookes like now and how many years have been in between. But to have friendly relationsship to a first love: that's great.

I don't have.

First girl I ever went out with was one Maureen; a born-again Christian who pretended butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. Once we'd split up she let me know that she'd spent a couple of years before the "born-again" bit doing the "sleeping around" bit with virtually everyone at high school and a couple of married guys. I spent most of the next ten years running away from any involvement with any woman who gave any indication of any interest in me at all.

Yes of course you are right Leadbelly. We all change and forty years is a lot of changing, but when I got the message from him I hadn't seen him since he was 15. The picture in my head was of a skinny guy with a mop of red hair, Beatle boots and a pink and white striped shirt with a black tie about half and inch thick. Though obviously I knew in my head that he would have changed, it still came as a shock to see a man in his 50s. I wouldn't have recognized him at all.

He says I still have the same beautiful smile. :-)

When puberty hit names weren't too important and it gets all kinda hazy until my first real love, Georgia. Alas, there will always be that one. I think there was a C&W song with that as a title.

First in childhood was a boy named Kent. First in adulthood goes unnamed because in his own obscure way he became rather famous, and married someone else.

Hey, Peace, I came across this excerpt in an article about love and sex that explains perfectly what I was trying to explain awhile back there.

"What's love got to do with it? Sexual arousal and romantic love activate quite distinct areas of the brain—and love is clearly the more powerful. The latter turns on dopamine-rich regions linked with motivation, and falling in love is not unlike the rush of taking cocaine, hence the addictiveness of a new crush, and the withdrawal-like symptoms of love lost."

That's it exactly. I was falling in love with little girls back in the toddler and primary school days, and I was not experiencing any sexual arousal at that time. I didn't really even think about sexual arousal or have any interest in it until sometime around maybe age 13 or 14...but boy did I ever think about romantic love a lot!!! It was an entirely emotional thing to me as a kid, not a sexual thing, and the quote above explains the difference.

Now when I became a teenager, of course, then the sexual aspects started getting mixed up with the romantic aspects, and that's when life really started to get confusing...boy, oh, boy, did it ever get confusing.

Ah yes, Barbara. My first love. I went into the Coast Guard in 1953, and while in boot camp, I wrote to her several times. The last time I wrote a letter to her, and one to my sister. Yup, I mixed up the envelopes so she got my sister's letter and my sister got Barbara's letter.

My sister thought it was funny. I never heard from Barbara agan.

Hmm...maybe Ernst. I don't remember his last name. I was three or four years old and he was probably about the same and would come over and ask me out -- "let's outside going and cowboy geh-playen" or "indiana geh-playen". It was a long time ago on 47th Street in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- just down the street from Pershing School and not too far in the other direction to the Wood, WI Old Soldiers Home and the old Milwaukee County Stadium, home of the Milwaukee Braves (stolen from Boston and then stolen from us by Atlanta).

Second probably was Timmy Walschlager, of the freckles, in second grade. He gave me a little white (probably plastic) Pegasus charm that was mislaid about 50 years ago.

Trish

I used to fancy a girl name Trish

She had long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes

And her little mini-skirt that went swish-swish-swish

Trish Trish, she was a communist

I was an anarcho/syndicalist/ marxist/lenninist

Trish Trish, she liked Chairman Mao

But I could not get keen somehow

I said Trish - we can sort this out dialectically

Even tho you find me repulsive sexually

I got a little red book and a chinese hat

She said don't bother al, you still look a twat

Still I fancied that girl named Trish

With her long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes, her creamy white thighs

And a little mini-skirt goin' - swish-swish-swish

Some men dream to enslave the world

Some are enslaved by the love of a girl

Stalin and Mao trish and me

Keats and fanny, La Belle Dame sans merci

(lead break)

Trish I hope you found a niche

With a house and a car and a satellite dish

Deep in in my heart the Internationale is still played

And we are storming the barricades

I fancied a girl named Trish

With her long brown hair she was quite a dish

I was hypnotised by her big blue eyes

And her little mini-skirt that went swish-swish-swish

Well, ok then...given names. So many categories of 'first'...

In 3rd grade there was beautiful Margaret H., daughter of a fire chief. She sat in front of me....and I actually once dipped her long, golden curls in the inkwell! (yes..it DOES show my age. I once held the job of 'inkwell filler'....)

When I was about 12, I visited my Uncle in San Diego when a niece of my aunt was also visiting. Her name was Virginia, and I had my first serious crush. We acted like kids for 2 weeks..joking and going to the zoo. Mooned over her for 2 years, even though I only knew her for 2 weeks.

In high school, there was Susan...one of the most popular girls in school. By this time, I knew what fantasies were for! I never even attempted to ask her out... Years later, someone who knew her told someone who knew me, that she had said.."Oh, yes...Bill D....I wonder why he never asked me for a date?" arrrggghh.

Finally, in 1st year college, there was Kay. We dated, and we married. It lasted 6 years. *shrug*

First crush; Sandra
First inspiration to write endless love letters (with 300 miles' separation we were were definitely GI); Heather
First experience of exaltation (with her as my dancing partner we made onlookers weep, a la Torvil & Dean); Marilyn
First experience of desolation (from the outset I knew she wanted to become a Carmelite; Miriam
First experience of utter inadequacy (I wasn't anywhere near Jewish enough for her mother); Rachel
First experience of complete fulfilment (I couldn't even remember what it was like to have been single); Yvonne

Fond memories all and each, in their way, was a "first love".

Cheers, Rowan

You were in love with a "Pam" too back then, Mick? Gad! I was desperately in love for about 5 or 6 years with a girl named Pam Ford...Junior High through High School. She was WAY outta my league at the time, but she gave me a pencil once in Grade 7 or 8 after I'd helped her with some math problems (I was "the brain" in my class), and I treasured it for years afterward till it disappeared one day when my mother took it upon herself to clean and organize my room and I wasn't there to guard the sacred pencil. AARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Pam (Pamela) is a name you don't hear much anymore, it seems. When I first heard it in full, I thought her name was "Pamelin"...and that would make a great name, I think. Even better than Pamela.

I can't remember the name of the first one...I started falling in love about the time I learned to walk, and there was this little girl in first grade, but I can't remember her name.

I do remember who I fell in love with in the 3rd Grade, though. Diane Powell. She was the daughter of some local farmer and was a grade or two older than me. I used to follow her around in a state of adoration, and observe everything she said and did. Then we moved to the USA, and Diane was lost to me forever! (sob!)

I also had an art teacher I fell in love with in Junior High. Miss Delavan. Another "older woman". She was glorious. Then she got married and became (shudder!) "Mrs Pinkney". Another dream destroyed! Her beauty and style deteriorated very noticeably in the next year or two after that...proof that marriage to a man named "Mr Pinkney" is a very bad idea, just as I had suspected! ;-)

Rosie McGinnis. She was, and is, one of the prettiest people I have ever seen. Laughing eyes, beautiful hair and skin, and a charming Irish personality. In the sixth grade we used to walk home sometimes. She married a great guy, a Union Rep in the area, and I ran into her in a local shopping establishment. Some 45 years later she is still gorgeous, still charming, and was accompanied by a daughter that is just like her Mom. All that, and Irish American too. And her Dad was a musician named Mugsy McGinnis, who owned a pawn shop and musical instrument repair.

All the best,

Mick

Which was the first name of your first love? Do you still remember her/him?
My little girl was (and hopefully is) named Martina. And, although not requested, her second name was Jungverdorben! That's absolutely true. But the meaning (= young depraved) didn't characterize this lovely, brown-eyed girl by no means. Good luck to her!

Must confess, that I got this simple idea for a thread after reading about "first bought record" ( music section above).
