DOUG EVERTON AND THE WAYWARD STREET PLAYERS!

RAZZ¡¦M JAZZ¡¦M!

2-6 PM AT THE ROSENSTEEL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, SILVER SPRING, MD.

While many folks are familiar with pre-school jams and senior citizen kazoo bands, this style actually has a respected tradition in American Music¡V from rural and street corner groups featuring a jug or washboard to some of the most sophisticated jazz recordings of the 1920¡¦s. The JUG BAND BASH! revives this tradition, featuring unplugged performances of the most electrifying ensembles on today¡¦s jug band scene. Bring your hearing aides +/or ear plugs and join in the grand finale on the instrument of your choice!

The All New Genetically-Altered Jug Band ¡V Through the medium of obscure 20th Century novelty songs and original compositions satirizing modern life, ANGAJB can be described as a traditional jazz with whistles, bells and harmony gargling. Join ¡§Special Ed¡¨ (Ed Light on Vocals, Banjo, Kazoo, and noises), ¡§Bags¡¨ (Richard Howard, on Vocals, Trumpet and Harmonica), ¡§Mister Scratchy¡¨ (Ron Goad on the washboard and all things percussive) and Gutbucketeer (Jim Bunch on washtub bass, jug, and more noises) with guest star, swing violinist Alan Oresky for a slightly skewed good time (www.myspace.com/ANGAJB)

The Wayward Street Players ¡V features Doug Everton on banjo, guitar and vocals like you have never heard, imitating the instruments of the band. A light-hearted mix of riverboat music, Louis Armstrong, and many other influences. With washtub bassist extraordinaire, Wes Butts, and the great Tom Layton on washboard. www.freewebs.com/waywardstreetplayers.

Razz¡¦m Jazz¡¦m - An eight piece rhythm group and musical hardware store modeled on the 20s jug bands, and playing a unique and entertaining style of washboard/jug band music. Lined up are Marv Reitz, jug, vocals and reeds; Kathy Reitz, bass, vocals; Mark Cox, saw and vocals; Tom Layton, washboard and vocals; Ken Hall, guitar; Dick Parks, trumpet and vocals; Pete Hinz, violin and vocals; Don Rouse, clary and slide whistle. www.pxrec.com.

DIRECTIONS TO ROSENSTEEL HALL (9707 ROSENSTEEL AVE., SILVER SPRING)¡XTAKE FOREST GLEN ROAD (MD RTE. 192) FROM GEORGIA AVENUE, JUST OUTSIDE THE Beltway, and go west .4 mile. Turn right on rosensteel avenue. The hall is on the right, across from a church and cemetery. Parking lot to the rear and side.

looks like FUN !! The Question is , Should I bring the Washboard AND the Tea Chest Bass ? Or should I just sit at home wishing I was 3000 miles across the pond !!
