Went to see them tonight and they were really good.
Anthony John Clarke did a really good support set. Fairport backed him for one his songs in the first half, and they called him up on stage to sing the last song of the evening with them "Meet On The Ledge" - a great way to finish an evening off.

You know you've arrived when you play Cleethorpes Pier!

I sounds like it was a great night.

The Fairports on Cleethorpes Pier !! Grimsby (Or nearby) the epicentre of an earthquake !! You can't leave the place for 33 years without they go changing everything.

I saw Fairport with AJ Clarke at Canterbury last week and they were great, as per usual. What I like is the way they come out to meet their audience after the gig. I know that they're making money by selling CD's, DVD's, t-shirts etc. and signing them, but they all just seem such decent types and really pleased to chat with their fans. Strange that most of the women gravitated towards Chris Leslie though.....

Possibly becuase they cocked up the promotion and only got 120 people there.
I know quite a few people who didn't know it was on.
So not enough people, no heating.
The bar service was crap and the carpets were sticky and stank to high heaven.

However AJC & FC more than made up for that.

Gerry,

I thought that the Cleethorpes Folk Festival is going to be based at the Memorial Hall this year, not the Pier.

To be fair, the larger proportion of the floor in the pier nightclub is wooden. However the carpet goes around the outside of the floor and is sticky with booze and smells. Maybe they will sort that.
Also if there are load's of people there, they probably will have a lot more staff on the bar.
