Subject: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Hawker Date: 26 Feb 08 - 06:58 PM Hi, Not BS to me! Not about on 'cat at moment as spending time visitng Tamsyn in hospital! severe abdominal pain on right hand side, with no obvious cause is about all I can tell you, but there is nothing more frustrating than watching your child writhe about in agony and the medics refusing to do surgery and just apparently standing around scratching their heads! An ultrasound scan and a CT scan have so far drawn a blank. Tonight she was in so much pain they gave her morphine! Cheers, from one tired and frustrated MUM! Lucy |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Rapparee Date: 26 Feb 08 - 07:07 PM Have they done a WBC? An elevated white count could indicate appendicitis -- but that should have been the first thing they thought of. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: katlaughing Date: 26 Feb 08 - 07:52 PM {{{{{{{LUCY & TAMSYN}}}}}}}} How's her urinary tract? Sounds as if they ruled out a lot of the usually suspects. If you have access, you might find something on this site helpful. I have not looked through all of it. Take a deep breath, Mum, and know we are here with you, both. I am sending you both Light, Love, and healing energy and giving thanks for a swift and easy resolution for the highest good of all concerned. SO mote it be! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: SINSULL Date: 26 Feb 08 - 08:08 PM There is nothing worse than watching your child suffer and not be able to do anything about it. So sorry, Hawker. My first guess would be appendicitis or ovarian cyst. keep us posted. SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: KT Date: 27 Feb 08 - 04:37 AM So sorry to hear this, Lucy. Sure sounds like appendix. I know of another case where they didn't think it was appendix, but it WAS! Praying for her speedy recovery! KT |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Hawker Date: 27 Feb 08 - 05:19 AM Im pretty sure its appendix too but they seem absolutely reluctant to cut her open and find out - apparently as she has not been sick they are dismissing it out of hand! (I did think that the morphine they gave her last night may make her sick but it didn't! - she will do ANYTHING not to be sick!) spoke to her on phone this morning still in pain and want her mum! (She's 17) Cheers, Lucy - off on the 1 hour drive to hospital after a cup of coffee! |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: katlaughing Date: 27 Feb 08 - 05:25 AM That's certainly what it sounds like to me, too. My son had a burst appendix when he was 15 or 16. We thought he had a bad case of the flu. When I finally got him to hospital, they wasted no time in getting him to surgery. He was pumped full of antibiotics for quite awhile after, it had been such a mess. I am sure the medical folks where Tamsyn is don't want to see that happen. May they fully open their eyes and minds and find out, for sure, what it is, today. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: The PA Date: 27 Feb 08 - 11:22 AM I know they have a crappie job to do but sometimes you have to get tough with them. When my mom was 80 she had a fall and needed 28 stitches in her forehead. After they had done them they said she was OK to go home. Was she hell! I insisted she stayed in over night, they eventually agreed but only after my brother, my husband and I refused to take her home and refused to move from A & E until they admitted her. Here's hoping everything goes OK for you both. xx |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: jacqui.c Date: 27 Feb 08 - 12:10 PM Poor Lucy - you really have been going through it! I hope that the medics discover the problem soon and deal with it - it is so hard to watch your children in pain and not to be able to stop it. Take care, both of you. Love and light coming from Maine. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Hawker Date: 27 Feb 08 - 06:51 PM Just got back from hospital. They decided to take her down to theatre for a laproscopy at 6 pm this evening after starving her since this morning, they had a good look round and said her ovaries and other bits looked OK but that the appendix was a bit 'sticky' at the back, whatever that means! he said it looked like it had been infected and was almost recovered, but felt that it could well flare up again as it was 'sticky' (I really dont know what he meant) and that they had removed it to prevent any infection spreading and possibly causing sterility etc as there are so many other organs in a young womans pelvic area that could be affected. She arrived back on the ward at 9pm, they performed it all with keyhole surgery so she will have minimal scarring and she was very woozy and in pain, but coherent enough to demand a kiss from her boyfriend before we went home - her lovely boyfriend sat and patiently waited for her to return to the ward with me all evening, bless him! We left her to sleep off the anasthetic and I'll be back tomorrow when hopefully she'll be feeling a little better. Ill keep you posted. Thanks for all the good thoughts, they seemed to work! and are much appreciated. Night night - Im off to bed! Lucy |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 Feb 08 - 06:54 PM I don't think the absence of an elevated White Blood Count in itself rules out an inflamed appendix. It could be in indication that it's not on the point of perforating, and that an operation to remove it might not be needed. A good few years ago my wife got this pain on her right side. "Not your appendix", said the GP - "constipation." Less than 24 hours and she was on the operating table having her appendix removed... As PA said, sometimes you have to be pretty firm with doctors. I hope there'll be good news soon, and she'll be back home being fussed over. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Rapparee Date: 27 Feb 08 - 06:59 PM Elevated WBC, fever, even pain can be absent and you can still have an inflamed (i.e., infected) appendix. If there's any doubt, take it out -- peritonitis isn't something to fool around with. Sometimes the only way to know is to go in and look, which is what they did. I'm glad it's working out okay. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Herga Kitty Date: 27 Feb 08 - 07:11 PM Lucy - I've only just seen this thread. Best wishes to all of you from me and Derek, and hope Tamsyn is soon feeling a lot better! Kitty |

Subject: RE: BS: Hawkers daughter in hospital From: Pistachio Date: 27 Feb 08 - 07:52 PM I've only just seen this thread and am waiting for news as my (nearly)22 yr old was admitted in severe pain yesterday and was starved today in readiness for a laparoscopic investigation due sometime this evening! The first scan showed appendix to be OK but then 'they' couldn't agree on what else it might be so back to the appendix tonight. Interesting that two 'catter' daughters are in the same boat. Verity had lost weight, pain put her off her food. She was prescribed protein drinks and put on a drip...,but as we left her tonight she was soooo hungry, yet delighted that when in recovery she's been advised to eat high protein and 'fatty' foods to assist with weight gain. I do hope that Tamsyn is feeling much better very soon and Lucy, don't forget to look after yourself too! I'm off to bed now. Last night's earthquake shook us awake and Verity said the whole hospital was swaying! It's a 12 floor structure about 20 miles from the epicentre !! Eeek! Hazel.x x |
