Subject: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: Arkie Date: 27 Feb 08 - 04:47 PM I have not seen any references to Peter and Bethany Yarrow and did not find any threads in a search so I am going to throw this out there. Here is a link to a performance of Long Chain On on Utube. Here Here is a link to a Bethany and Rufus performance on Utube Nobody's Fault For those who do not know, Bethany is Peter Yarrow's daughter and is a wonderful singer in her own right. I believe a CD is in the works with this song included. |
Subject: RE: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: Azizi Date: 27 Feb 08 - 05:16 PM Thanks for starting this thread, arkie. The Mudcat thread RE: Origin: Sail Away Ladies thread.cfm?threadid=97649 includes a link to another YouTube video of Peter and Bethany Yarrow. Here's a repost of that comment: Subject: RE: Origin: Sail Away Ladies From: Azizi - PM Date: 23 Feb 08 - 10:28 AM ... Speaking of great versions of "Sail Away Ladies", check out this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJvNcm2ZvnM Excerpt from Peter, Bethany & Rufus: The Spirit of Woodstock. Bethany and Rufus play with Mady Kouyate (kora) Bong Jean Baptiste (percussion) and Sheila Anozier (dance). Added: February 12, 2008 -snip- Bethany visits Mudcat and I hope she sees this post. Bethany, that video is wonderful! I love the sound of your voice and I love the merging of the African kora and drum with the bass and the electric guitar. The instrumentation is wonderful! Thanks so much for posting that video. -end of repost- Also, I failed to mention in my original post that I also liked the addition of a dancer's interpretation of the song and music. Your version of that song rocks! [No pun intended] :o) |
Subject: RE: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: Greg B Date: 27 Feb 08 - 07:53 PM Rufus, in spite of his scowl, might be the happiest cellist on earth. Bet he finds all kinds of excuses to rehearse "If I Had My Way." At his place. And dang--- the air-conditioner is broken again! The Village lives... |
Subject: RE: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: Arkie Date: 27 Feb 08 - 08:48 PM Azizi, thanks for the note on the Sail Away Ladies thread. I had looked at that thread but failed to note the Youtube link. I did watch the video while at the Youtube site and it was like listening to the piece for the first time. It is a work of art the way each instrument, voice and dance come together. Bethany not only has a beautiful voice, she uses it so well in interpreting her songs. Greg, Rufus is certainly one of the most innovative cellists on earth and he does not seem so glum when he is not performing. |

Subject: RE: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: frogprince Date: 28 Feb 08 - 08:54 PM Thanks, Arkie; love it; I think she's dy-no-mite. I loved what they do with "If I Had My Way" too. |
Subject: RE: Peter and Bethany Yarrow From: Azizi Date: 29 Feb 08 - 07:16 AM Well, I have to confess that I didn't know who Peter Yarrow is. Thanks for hipping me to that. My compliments to Peter for being a part of that iconic group. It's nice to know that Bethany is his daughter. And {but} these video clips demonstrate that Bethany is a great, expressive, emotive singer in her own right. And she looks great too!* *Not that it matters, but I just want to emphasize the point that women can give other women compliments about their physical appearance without there being anything sexual in the mix. |
