Subject: RE: happy? - Feb 29 (Trumpeldor killed) From: GUEST,Volgadon Date: 29 Feb 08 - 04:55 PM Trumpeldor's deathbed words were dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, but in Hebrew. He wasn't, however, one for taking advice. As the nephew of one of those killed in Tel-Hai told us, had he listened to some present, the sad events of the day might have been avoided. Nevertheless, a hero and very important figure. He was able to live outside the Pale of Settlement, because his father had been an officer. He lived in the south and was a strong influence on Jewish youth in Rostov. As a result, many immigrated, bringing with them many folksongs, as well as trying to emulate Cossack culture. |
