skarpi, I'm not doubting that. The matter was culture, not town twinning :-).

Anyway, it took the Americans 200 years to develop a culture

Did they start with the development already? ;-)
It should read "it will take" ;-)

A red-letter day.

Yesterday my wife gave her principal formal notice that she would not return next year, at least as a regular scheduled classroom teacher. Which will free us up for travel, a great part of the year. No more fighting the crowds on school vacations.

She came home and told me this as I was reading the Mudcat.

I asked, "Do you want to go to Iceland in 2010?" She blinked once and said, yes.

Incidentally, Iceland is one of only 4 foreign countries I've ever been in, in my 66+ years. The others were England, Scotland and Canada. And I didn't get to any of them except Canada 'till I was nearly 60.

Unfortunately, both times I was in Iceland consisted of waiting in the airline terminal for a couple of hours for a plane change. Maybe I can do better.

Peter.

Actually onshore, I have not set foot on Icelandic soil since 1965, many fond memories of the places visited, Egilsstadir, Seydisfjordur, Akureyri and Reykjavik. My wife has family up there and we've talked about making the trip, 2010 would be as good a time as any.

The NPR article linked above suggests it's warming up for the
Eurogathering.

Keep it up, warmer, warmer!

Way to go skarpi.

It seems that while it's easy enough to fly from Glasgow there aren't any ferries touching the UK any more. Skarpi, is that right? I'd much prefer to go by boat if it were possible.

I'd be up for it too, having missed the Scottish Mudgather last October. Spent an hour or 2 in Ceflavik airport on the way to and from Canada in 1995, but otherwise not visited your lovely country and it's on the list of 1000 things to do before you die!

Just when you think you've got rid of me, I pop up again.

I'd be prepared to try to organise something near to Grimsby but, rather than confuse things here in Skarpi's thread, I'll start a new one for 2009.

DC

P.S. I'm still interested in a Eurogathering in Iceland in 2010

skarpi, I'm looking into staying for a week or so. Is there any accommodation you can recommend? 'Cause I can't bring the car to stay in ... I've no idea of the level of prices in Iceland, but suspect it's as expensive as Scandinavia (and Britain).
