p.s. Just want to add that I am not the biggest fan of 'Urban Primitive' or 'Celtica'...but that might just be me.

Hi Ralphie

You can order from Oliver's website. A couple of his early tapes have been redone as CDs as well - 'Whirled' and 'Jigzup'. 'Camino' is another utterly fabulous one.

Here is Oliver's website, for listening and shopping:

http://www.oliverschroer.com/

You'll see that prices are divided up between Canadian, US and International (in US dollars).

Hi All
Any way these CD's can travel across the pond to the UK?
Haven't managed to track them down on the web.
First came across Mr S with his Jigzup CD.
Still one of my all time favourites
Thanks in advance
Ralphie

Beautifully put, Mooh. I couldn't agree more.

For those of you (us) also into Facebook, go to the group "Oliver Schroer, Canada's Tallest Free-Standing Fiddle Player" for his latest updates and a wall to write on. Coast - to - coast support for a national treasure.

I was lucky enough to receive "Hymns & Hers" for my birthday (see the B.S. thread below the line...blush), have played it, and listened in awe. Several spine chills, hot flashes, and nearly wet eyes later I can honestly say I am stunned. Highly recommended. Now I need to buy copies as gifts!

I saw Oliver open for and perform with James Keelaghan a few years ago. Taking nothing at all from Keelaghan's wonderful performance, I was nonetheless more impressed with Schroer's opening solo set. His touch and sensitivity with the bow is almost beyond words. For my ears, he bridges the fiddle and violin worlds exactly and beautifully.

Peace, Mooh.

Adding: "Smithers" a 2 CD set by fiddler Oliver Schroer with pianist Emilyn Stam.

"SMITHERS is a tune-cycle of fify-nine short melodies for fiddle and piano. I wrote these melodies for the children of a certain special and musical town in the Pacific Northwest - Smithers, BC. I have taught and mentored intensively in Smithers over the post seven years. This is a thank-you album for a time of inspiration, friendship, and shared growth. And for that community's support during my major health crisis. ~Oliver Schroer"

It's my first time listening to it. It's a beauty. So personal, so clear and open. It gives me the shivers.

Hymns and Hers. It's one of the latest bunch of fiddle CDs by Oliver Schroer. I play it over and over. It's got me hooked. There's always yet another simplicity and yet another complexity to discover.

We picked it up at the Olliefiddle benefit at Hugh's Room, Toronto, a couple of weeks ago. Ollie is going for a bone marrow transplant any day now. He performed at the benefit - a few pieces in each set. Such power, passion and creativity.
