Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: GUEST,Rob from Woolton Date: 06 Mar 08 - 10:13 AM Whisper it soft, but Lonnie Donegan made a version of 'Long Haired Lover from Liverpool'. Sorry to tarnish his memory! Fortunately, few people noticed it at the time because of Little Jimmy's hit version. With regard to version by a British comedy actress, I don't personally remember one, but it's the sort of thing that Dora Bryan might have done. She did an appalling song called "All I Want for Christmas is a Beatle" in about 1963/4. Perhaps she turned it round to be the long-haired lady from Liverpool of the thread subject, with a sunshine lover from LA. |

Wasn't Sims was it ?? Personally I think Camper Ted is taking the piss - well done Ted. Cheers Betsy |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: Les in Chorlton Date: 05 Mar 08 - 11:14 AM Appologies, I was being a bit un-called for |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: Dave Roberts Date: 05 Mar 08 - 10:00 AM It is a catchy tune and there's nothing particularly wrong with the lyrics. I think it was the toe-curlingly cutesy and almost unbelievably irritating way that Little Jimmy O used to sing the song which has poisoned our minds against it. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: Camper-Ted Date: 05 Mar 08 - 09:38 AM Hi Les, Thanks for the laugh. I am not a fan of the Osmonds, although some of my children were. I have a wide taste in music and this song hit me as one that my grand kids would like to sing. Thanks Camper-Ted |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: The Borchester Echo Date: 04 Mar 08 - 09:43 AM #1 25 November 1972 Little Jimmy Osmond: Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Long Haired Lady From Liverpool From: GUEST Date: 04 Mar 08 - 09:42 AM From here: Long Haired Lover From Liverpool is a pop song by Little Jimmy Osmond. Written by Christopher Kingsley and produced by Mike Curb and Perry Botkin Jr, Long Haired Lover from Liverpool was a UK number one single for Little Jimmy Osmond. Riding high on the popularity of The Osmonds, Jimmy (the youngest sibling) had a massive hit with the song, in the process becoming the youngest person to ever reach number one on the UK singles chart aged 9 years 8 months. A UK number one for five weeks in December 1972, it was the Christmas number one that year, eventually selling 998,000 copies. The song went to No. 38 in the U.S. You can find it on YouTube here. Your 'Lady' version is a parody of the above. |
