There's a version of this song by Joe Heaney available on CD as well. I used to have the vinyl version, but invested in the digital version. Quality will out, no matter what the medium.

Shoh slaynt,

Bobby Bob

Thanks very much for your reply Maelgwyn and Bobby Bob. Very much appreciated! I am sure I will stun and amaze (or at least induce a few cringes with my pronunciation) at the next session.

Subject: Lyr Add: PEIGÍN 'S PEADAR / PEIGÍN AND PEADAR
From: Antaine
Date: 17 May 99 - 06:32 PM

Peigín 's Peadar

"A Pheigín na gcarad 's a Pheigín mo chroí,
Cé hé an fear fada údan sínte leat síos?
Ó a hó, a mhaithín ó, ó a mhaithín ó, a stóirín mo chroí."

"A Pheadair na gcarad 's a Pheadair mo chroí,
Sin é do leanbh nach bhfaca tú riamh."

"Muise shiúil mise thoir agus shiúil mise thiar,
Ach féasóg ar leanbh ní fhaca mé riamh!"

"Muise a Pheadair na gcarad 's a Pheadair mo chroí,
Tá scór bliain caite ó d'fhág tú mo thí."

"A Pheigín na gcarad 's a pheigín mo chroí,
Éirigh i do sheasamh 'gus réitigh greim bídh."

"Ach a Pheadair na gcarad 's a Pheadair mo chroí,
Níl ins an teach agam greim mine buí."

"'S a Pheigín na gcarad 's a pheigín mo chroí,
In íochtar mo mhála tá cáca mine buí."

"Muise a Pheadair na gcarad 's a Pheadair mo chroí,
Tá an cáca seo a'at lán de ghineachaí buí."

"'S a Pheigín 's a mhaicín suífidh muid síos,
Ní fhágfad an baile chúns mhairfeas mé arís."

Peigín and Peadar

"Peigín my friend and Peigín my heart,
Who is that tall man stretched alongside you?
Oh a ho, my love, oh a ho, my love, oh love of my heart."

"Peadar my friend and Peadar my heart,
That is you baby whom you never saw."

"For I walked east and I walked west,
But a beard on a baby I have never before seen!"

"Oh Peadar my friend and Peadar my heart,
Twenty years have passed since you left my house."

"Peigín my friend and Peigín my heart,
Rise up now and prepare some food."

"Ah but Peadar my friend and Peadar my heart,
I have not a grain of yellow meal in the house."

"Peigín my friend and Peigín my heart,
In the bottom of my bag there is a yellow meal cake."

"Ah Peadar my friend and Peadar my heart,
This cake you have is full of golden guineas!"

"Oh my Peigín and my son we will sit down,
And I'll never leave home again for as long as I live."

Fáilte romhat arais, Antaine. Ní bhíonn Áine no Annraoi (atá togta le IrTrad-L) gnóthach ar an "Chat" faoi láthair agus tá Gaeilgeoirí eile a dhith le haghaidh a leitheid seo ceiste a fhreagairt.

Philippa, what does this collection of letters mean?
Failte means "welcome", Antaine is a Mudcat member, but what about all the rest? (Ok, I recognize "Chat" and IrTrad-L, but there is lots more of that Irish letter collection...

Andreas

Philippa is just giving Antaine a particular welcome back because it means that someone else can help with the translations from Irish!

Regards

p.s.Be careful! The "chat" referred to is Mud-cat!
