Does anyone know if Tony Kosinec is still making music anywhere? He stayed with us in NYC in 1970 while playing at the Village Gate, then moved back to Toronto, and I never heard of him again.
His first (and maybe only?) album was Tony Kosinec/Bad Girl Songs, Columbia Records #C30277, and was Peter Asher's (of Peter and Gordon) first production after "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor.
Tony's lyrics and melodies were a delight, and I never understood why he didn't become better known (maybe something as simple as his hard-to-remember name?)
He was accompanied by Maribeth Solomon on keyboards, also from Toronto. Anyone know if she's also still performing?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark. Tony's most recent claim to fame is the Blue Jays fight song. "OKAYY BLUE JAYSS!" Believe Maribeth is still active. I'm not certain but I believe he writes commercials full time.

Rick, you are one cool kat. I've been asking people about Tony for decades, and never got any kind of hit. Now, ten minutes after posting on the mudcat, you give me solid information. One boxcar full of thanks to you, sir.

Mark

That's what happens when you go from being a starving songwriter to a more commercial field. Folks forget. But ohhh boy, those royalty checks!

Actually, young Tony paid a bunch of dues at once on that trip to New York in 1970. He was so well liked at the Village Gate (opening for Richard Pryor) that he was held over for a second week (opening for Jerry Jeff Walker). But Jerry Jeff refused to play if Tony played, as he said that Tony was copying Jerry Jeff's style (he was not), so the Village Gate said "so sorry, Tony, you can't play here." Then some guys who claimed to represent Bob Dylan tried to steal Maribeth away, and they sort of succeeded in that she left Tony's act. And that same week, Tony left his two guitars in a taxi and lost them. That was a lot of blows for one week; I felt very sorry for him. Glad to hear he's not starving, anyway.
Is the Blue Jays song any good?

Mark
