I'm sure Mudcatters will be wondering what is happening in Holmfirth from May 9 - 11th this year.
I can tell you we have an excellent line up of guests which is carefully planned to be unlike all other festivals! You won't see many of the names that crop up on every guest list throughout the country but you will find quality.
We have a long list of well established performers who will be complemented by some of the best young musicians in the area and some cracking dance sides and street entertainment so take a look at the web site (www.holmfirthfolkfestival.co.uk) and put the date in your diary.

I have been sent via the Internet secret film of Last years Wibbly Wobbly Walking Workshop traditional run each year at the Holmfirth Festival of Folk. The Wibbly Wobbly Walking side will be rehearsing in Barnsley this coming Easter. Disguises are traditionally worn to protect the innocent. You can see this secret film here!

Hi Wayne yes it has been a while know one has upset me I've just been a bit Busy on a Tuesday. I've got a Radio interview to fit in one Tuesday Night so as soon as that's done I shall be pleased to pay you all a visit down at the Abbey, as you know it is a friendly place especially on a Tuesday night. It just goes a bit quiet when Wales loose a Rugby Match can't think why.

Come on chaps let's get back to business!!

Alison our campsite person asked that people be reminded to get on and book their spaces sharpish before it's too late. The appropriate paper work is on the web site under accommodation.

Also anyone who would like to help would be welcomed with open arms. We can't offer much in the way of free ticket as we don't do tickets for much but they could get a nice rosy glow knowing that they have done something to preserve the future of the festival!

I'll now stand back and wait for the rush.

Splottie and I are looking forward to it a lot. We will be doing another spoons workshop no doubt. Last year's was held outside Sid's cafe and I think there were about 100 people. It was very noisy anyway, we had to compete with the church bells!

Club, Gerry has become a familiar face at many venues up and down the

Treebeard + Paul Pearson

Treebeard were formed in 1998 by Haze & World Turtle brothers Chris &
Paul McMahon plus Paul Chisnell (Haze, Three Legged Cat, Old Pekuliar),
Gordon Walker (Ant Hill Mob & guest on World Turtle's 'Wilderness of
Eden') and Chris Jellis (Old Pekuliar).
The band play original songs and tunes as well as a selection of rock,
pop, folk (& even country!) songs in their own inimitable way. They
describe their style as 'Heavy Wood', acoustic music played on a range
of instruments, including guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki,
accordion, balalaikas (of all sizes), plus assorted percussion, topped
off with 4 & 5 part harmony vocals.
The band have recently been joined by Ceri Ashton (on flute/fiddle) of
ceilidh band The Outlandish Knights & folk trio Hiraeth.
Treebeard released their debut CD 'Heavy Wood' on Gabadon Records in
2002 and are currently working on a follow-up CD. They have a track
"Train" featured on the "Forged in Sheffield" folk compilation.

The timetable (subject to amendment and confirmation) should be on the Holmfirth Festival of Folk web site in a day or so. It is done in my own inimitable style and not how it can be viewed in the printed programme which should be on sale by the end of April but I'm sure you will be able to find your way around it!
Also tickets are now available at the Tourist Information Office for the concerts at the Old Bridge on Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons and the Saturday night ceilidh with the Climax Ceilidh Band. Tickets for Quicksilver at CragRats and Nick Harper, John Cooper Clarke and Family Mahone at the Picturedrome are all available from the venues.
It's all looking good and there's lots to do.

Update on tickets for Old Bridge Concerts - in addition to being available at the Tourist Information Office they are now also at the Old Bridge Hotel.
Don't forget that you need to contact CragRats (01484 691323) for tickets for Quicksilver on Saturday afternoon - a very reasonable £6/£5 conc.
And the Picturedrome for Nick Harper, John Cooper Clarke and Family Mahone - selling fast.

Just to confirm that the timetable is now on the website so you can get some idea of who's on where and when.
The programme is nearly done and will be off to the printers this weekend so that it is out on the streets by the end of the month. That must be a record - it used to be an achievement if it was available by the time the festival began - but it wasn't in Phil's capable hands then!!

I've just checked and Alan has got the latest press release up on the site. This, along with my timetable gives you a pretty good idea of who's on where and when and what's happening. Tickets for the concerts at the Old Bridge will be amazing and tickets are already selling so don't miss out.

Friday night: Jack Rutter, Gerry McNeiece, Steve and Kristi Nebel, Stanley Accrington, Duncan McFarlane and Anne Brivonese.

Saturday Afternoon: Pat Smith and Ned Clamp, Roy Clinging, Paul and Liz Davenport, Nick Hennessey and Sara Grey.

Saturday night: Andi Neate, Roger Davies, Les Barker, Pete Morton, Mike Silver and Johnnie Coppin.

Sunday afternoon: Anne Curran, Hamish Currie, Soundsphere and Carmichael.

Not bad for £5 each concert!

Well not only are there concerts, but a festival wouldn't exist without "mainly yourselves"

Plenty of folk clubs and singarounds and musicians sessions and workshops with great strength in depth

A festival needs to mix both old and new and folk has somne knowledgeable old people

Holmfirth the town lends itself to dance teams on good old tarmac! outside the town centre pubs with great weather what more can you need

I dont know a great deal about owt' and what I do know int' worth knowing...So I intend to be getting p----d over the H F o F weekend...on that point where will all the lowlifes be on Sunday night about 8pm.....when I know I will have awoke from the night before at some point between 11.00am and 5pm..[depending on how Saturday night goes with the liniment]..just curious ..?

A clarification on ticket sales.

All concert tickets (including Picturedrome but excluding CragRats) are available at the TIO in Holmfirth.

Tickets for Old Bridge Concerts are also available at the Old Bridge and I have a small number for anyone who wants to send me a cheque and sae.

Ceilidh tickets are available at the TIO. I don't have any but can point anyone interested towards the person that has some. They are not available at the Old Bridge unless I manage to get some taken there!
