Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: GUEST,Rodney Blackwell Date: 27 Mar 12 - 10:37 PM Cheers for the download, my father purchased the original tapes in '81' they have all but disappeared. This will bring a smile to his face as he was brought up in the Lithgow coal mines and shearing sheds. Thnkyou Bill D. for posting it online... |

Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Bill D Date: 11 Mar 08 - 10:40 PM Wonderful...thank you! I had seen some notes, but had not checked them yet. Since Mudcat has been around, I have learned much about traditional Australian music, and have met several excellent purveyors of the songs. This is a fine addition to my list of places to hear the songs, and there are a few I had never heard before at all. (And the stories and bush poetry add a lot.) |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: GUEST,Warren Fahey Date: 11 Mar 08 - 10:11 PM I am delighted you have all found this series but I also need to tell you there are two other series available as free streamed radio programs. One features the late and great Declan Affley and the other series offers some of my 1970s field recordings of bush singers and musicians. Warren Fahey www.warrenfahey.com Australian Folklore Unit |

Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: GUEST,Dónal Date: 11 Mar 08 - 09:30 PM I add my thanks Rowan, I vaguely remember the programmes but I was much too busy at the time to listen, let alone record them. Now I can rectify that. |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Bill D Date: 11 Mar 08 - 09:14 PM (I also hilight and copy the text list of song titles and save a copy in the same directory as the program.) I have 10 of the 13 that are up so far...will do others tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Bill D Date: 11 Mar 08 - 09:05 PM (I play the program, open a file manager, go to the cache, where I find an mp3 file, and move it to another directory an rename it) |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Bill D Date: 11 Mar 08 - 09:03 PM Joe...if you hear it it IS on your computer. Each program is just an mp3 file. do a 'view source' and you can find the exact address of each segment. Titles like http://warrenfahey.com/audio/03-wtbb.mp3&playingColor=DE182D&theBkgdColor=CCFF9 eliminate everything after .mp3 and save it and rename it. http://warrenfahey.com/audio/03-wtbb.mp3 |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Fergie Date: 11 Mar 08 - 08:48 PM Hi Joe, I was able to download the complete archive to my pc using Realplayer. The series is excellent, I have been transported from Dublin to the bush, without the need for four months at sea and a troop of armed redcoats, Fergus |
Subject: RE: While the Billy Boils - online radio series From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Mar 08 - 03:13 PM Hi, Rowan - I hopy you don't mind that I added a bit of clarification to the thread title. This is a wonderful program. I wish I could download the program so I could play it away from my computer, but perhaps you don't have permission to distribute it as a podcast. -Joe- |

Subject: Folklore: While the billy boils From: Rowan Date: 10 Mar 08 - 06:36 PM From the Ausfolk list, a historic Australian folk music radio series While the billy boils, 16 programs of Australian folksongs, poetry and stories. Warren writes; I am delighted to inform readers that my landmark 1979 ABC radio series is now available as free streamed radio - 16 programs covering Australian folk ballads including some (then) contemporary folksongs. Of all my many ABC programs this is the one that has received the most requests - in fact thousands - despite being broadcast three times. It was tempting to make these chargeable downloads but how much better to make them free to all. You will hear rare songs and even rarer opportunities to hear some of Australia's most significant interpreters of our traditional heritage. I feel safe in saying that of all the manifestations of The Larrikins - over some 25 years - this was the most important. This is no slight on any person who passed through the group as you all know - the group was always meant to be a moveable feast with members coming and going to suit the various projects I put in front of it. I believe every single musician who played in The Larrikins contributed a wealth of ideas and creativity. This crew was special. The Larrikins at the time of recording were Declan Affley, Dave de Hugard, Jacko Kevans, Cathie O'Sullivan, Bob McInnes & Warren Fahey. Special guests included: Trevor Shearston, Andy Saunders, Tony Suttor, Mike Jackson & John Dengate. The spoken word segments were presented by: John Ewart, Les Foxcroft, Guy Le Clair, Diana McLean, Declan Affley, Jacko Kevans and Warren Fahey. Cheers, Rowan |
