Subject: Link Wray's 'Rumble' turns 50... From: Bobert Date: 14 Mar 08 - 07:33 PM Well, well, well... Like mnay others my age when I first heard "Rumble" some 50 years ago I knew that I wanted to play geetar... Yes, 50 years ago this week was when "Rumble" was released... There were lots of radio stations that wouldn't play it for fear that it would create riots and rebellion... Long live "Rumble" and Link Wray, as well... BV~ |

Subject: RE: Link Wray's 'Rumble' turns 50... From: 21st Century Bluesman Date: 15 Mar 08 - 04:20 PM Unfortunately Link Wray is no longer with us. He died a couple of years back, but he was performing right to the end. He was best known for his 1950s and early sixties guitar instrumentals, but I think a few Mudcatters would be more interested in his output when he reinvented himself as a roots rocker in the late '60s and early '70s with albums such as Link Wray, Beans and Fatback and Be What You Want To Be. Well worth searching out - reminiscent of The Band's best stuff. He was of Native American stock and very proud of the fact. |
