I do at last go back as far as The Jack of Both Sides , though I was on.y an occasional visitor ten - That was very early seventies .

Thanks for the info Peter. I have passed on your comments to John & May Sommerville, who are both long time members of Maidenhead FC.
I'm obviously a recent recruit from around 1982, when Tony and I got married.

I certainly remember going to The Prince Albert when we were engaged.
I didn't know about the Dolphin, as the only venue that was in use when we got married was The Stag and Hounds in Pinkney's Green, followed by The Rose, then The Ferry in Cookham to The Seven Stars, and briefly to The Fifield Inn. We are now at The New Inn, Farm Road, Maidenhead.

As always the club runs on a Thursday Night and starts at 8.30pm, everyone is most welcome.

Does anyone else remember the original Maidenhead Folk Club? It started in Bray Village Hall, where I saw John Renbourne one week and the Levee Breakers the next in about 1965 (ah, the wonderful Beverley). Then it moved to the hall at the back of the Prince Albert pub in King Street for a few years. John Foreman, Gerry Loughran (it was always his birthday), Johnny Silvo and many others performed there. I was singing with a group called the Highroaders at the time. After that it shifted to the Dolphin Hotel down by Boulters Lock, where I remember Wally Whyton and Redd Sullivan singing their hearts out. The great blues singer Jo Ann Kelly was a regular and I was once deputed to meet Sandy Denny at Maidenhead Railway Station, near where I lived, and walk her to the Dolphin. About two and a half miles. She didn't say a word the whole way. Maybe she was expecting a taxi. But she was an impressive performer, even though the club had moved for that night only into what was essentially a shed in the garden. I remember thinking that hers was a gutsy way to earn a living.

Oh how I wish I could have joined you last night, this has been on my calendar for such a long time *sob* Alas, one of my headlights popped & we can't find the right fuse, bl**dy Haines manuals!!! Not a good idea to do motorways with only one headlight, a definite pull!

..aye, it's a place I miss hugely since moving to Wales. A terrific club with some wonderful regulars and brilliant guests - and a pair of national treasures in the form of Tony and Pearl (and if the ludicrous honours system had any validity or relevance, those two should have got gongs for what they've done for our country's traditional music at festivals and clubs).

It is without a doubt a great club.Any one within a fifty mile radious should think of a visit.Good company ,great welcome,superb singing.............What more could you want.

In fact, it's ALMOST as good as Marlow Bottom Acoustic Club ( You have a choice of venues, viz. T.J. Reillys at Marlow Bottom, ---The Prince Albert, Frieth, or The Old Ship, Cadmore End !! ). But Terry Silver is worth going to Knowl Hill for, I guess !!

Its arguably one of the best small folk clubs in southern England , with a very talented hard core of regular local singers , as well as the best Bookable artists on the scene !
