Subject: Ok, hit me. What are the E/C festivals?
From: GUEST
Date: 18 Mar 08 - 09:06 PM

Ok, so I would like to know what the east coast festivals and sings are this year. I've been out of it since having children in 2001. Now, I want to indoctrinate them!!! It's been a long while, but I'd like to get them into it and me _back_ into it!

Catfeet, who used to be a regular poster, back in the day

Surely the phrase 'East Coast' in a musical context means Canada.

Yup, but it's Canadians who use the term 'East Coast Music' and have the annual ECM awards. But I might well be wrong about Guest's location....

If you're not from the East Cost of Canada or the U.S then E/C probably won't mean anything to you.

In the UK E-C means English Ceilidh - so an E-C festival might be Chippenham, Sidmouth, probably Towersey is where all the ceilidhnauts will be last w/e in Aug.

Yes, my first thought was that the OP was looking for e-ceilidh (or possibly festivals at which Eliza Carthy was booked).
After all, a festival is scarcely worth going anywhere near unless it has both.

It might have helped had 'catfeet' revaled this in the first place, though not necessarily.
E-ceilidh can happen anywhere and so can Eliza C gigs.

Let us maybe cut Catfeet a bit of slack, (s)he has hardly posted in the last 7 years, so probably hasn't had much chance to realise how international the 'cat has become.

Welcome back Catfeet (posting from the home of 2 good East Coast festivals, but the wrong East Coast)

Last year, I started a website - purely as a hobby - devoted to folk music in New England (only N.E. - nothing further south than Greenwich CT). There's a page on folk festivals in New England that I just re-checked today, and all the links are good. Some of the fests haven't added info for 2008, so you may be looking at their pages for 2007. If a fest seems to be temporarily out of business, I leave the link... ever hopeful they'll return in a year.

Go here:
New England Folk Network

There should be a summer's worth of fun there!

If you're looking for a child and family friendly weekend, check out Old Songs as cited above. It's a great low-key weekend with lots of performances and informal music available. If you want your children to see music as something to participate in, that's a great option.
