Subject: gower folk festival 2008 From: gower el bombero Date: 22 Mar 08 - 05:05 PM The unique Gower Folk Festival (June 13th 15th) promises to be one of the best yet so mudcatters thinking of sampling the music and its special atmosphere should secure their tickets soon. A full programme, and much more, can be seen and heard on www.halfpennyfolkclub.com Just thinking about the lovely coastal setting, the intimate atmosphere under the setting sun, the real ale, and the varied music and dancing makes it feel like Summer is already here. |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 23 Mar 08 - 05:31 AM Well, having seen the scenery on Coast recently I'm looking forward to it even more than I was. Really beautiful. I'm on the Sunday but I'll be coming down on Sat to see the Sultans, cos in spite of playing with Parky I've STILL not yet managed to catch them. Both Chris and JK are simply awesome alone - together, well, the mind boggles! Tom |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Dame Pattie Smith EPNS Date: 24 Mar 08 - 06:42 PM Splottie and myself will be there too. It's a magic festival and if you are camping it's the best campsite in Britain for the views. |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Charley Noble Date: 24 Mar 08 - 10:01 PM I love the directions for finding the Festival: totally incomprehensible! If only they would provide longitude and latitude, we could locate this festival via Goggle Earth. Cheerily, Charley Noble, who has actually been to the end of the Gower Peninsula and survived. |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Splott Man Date: 25 Mar 08 - 04:33 AM A quick glance at the centre's website didn't reveal a postcode either, but here'ss the map location |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: GUEST, Tom Bliss Date: 25 Mar 08 - 06:24 AM Thanks Splott - when it's not Tom/Tom in the cab I have to rely on TomTom, and I couldn't find a postcode anywhere. Looking at the line-up I think I'll come for the whole weekend. See you there! Tom |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Saro Date: 25 Mar 08 - 07:28 AM Hi Mike, we are there for the SUNDAY! I think we might come over on Satruday evening though, but we won't be performing officially till Sunday. Saro |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Splott Man Date: 25 Mar 08 - 08:46 AM If you've time to spare, it's worth crossing the road (scroll south on the map), and walking down the estuary to the bay. There's the ruins of Pennard castle looking down on you, and the area behind (Sandy Lane) it is interesting, too. It's an old holiday camp that was taken over 30 or so years ago by squatters, who are now firmly established. Their horses will be on the common with their foals in June, lots of Aaah-factor. Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: SussexCarole Date: 26 Mar 08 - 10:57 AM If anyone is spending time on Gower before and/or after the festival let us know & we'll organise some evening sings & sessions in some local pubs Carole & Andrew |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: MoorleyMan Date: 26 Mar 08 - 01:58 PM Are there no free singers' sessions during the festival weekend itself? The festival website seems to imply everything is on-site and ticketed (or did I miss a link?).. |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Rasener Date: 26 Mar 08 - 02:29 PM I do wish I could make it. Ever since I was a teenager, the Gower Peninsula has and will always be one my favourite areas within the UK. Port Eynon, Oxwich Bay and Rhossilli, such magical places. |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Splott Man Date: 27 Mar 08 - 04:49 AM There's usually an informal sing or two, either on site, just outside on the benches or in the Chapel round the corner. Splott Man |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: SussexCarole Date: 30 Mar 08 - 07:01 PM Charley - you can follow the links on our website to the Gower Heritage Centre (Parkmill). |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: BanjoRay Date: 31 Mar 08 - 09:02 AM How could you do this to me? The Gower's my childhood stomping ground (I'm originally from Loughor), and your festival clashes with an Old Time festival at Angle Bay in the Pembrokeshire National Park, which I'm afraid I have to go to. Aargh Ray |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Dame Pattie Smith EPNS Date: 31 Mar 08 - 11:35 AM Ooh yes Carole and Andrew. I might take you up on that one. I'll possibly be still celebrating my birthday then. |
Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: treewind Date: 31 Mar 08 - 01:20 PM Mary and I will be there from Saturday afternoon onwards too, though our only performance is in the Sunday afternoon concert. We'll probably be looking for some people to play tunes with... Anahata |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Folkiedave Date: 20 May 08 - 06:12 PM It was intended that there would be a purveyor of previously-cherished folk books would be in attendance. However the moment I confirmed my presence at the festival - there was the local management informing me I was needed elsewhere. Hey ho! Have a good time and as well as Mary and Anahata take a look at Skyhook - for an up-and coming band you will see more of. And the rest of the wonderful guests. |

Subject: RE: gower folk festival From: Crane Driver Date: 27 May 08 - 04:47 PM Hi Saro - The schedules listed above show that the AUTHORISED Come-All-Ye on Saturday is from 12 noon to 1:00pm (noon to 2:00 on Sunday). We're also down to run a tune & song session in the Woollen Mill Friday evening (6 til 8) after which Tony (aka gower el bombero) will be running a Come-All-Ye session in the chapel (8 til 10:30). There's also a Big Sing in the chapel Sunday evening (6 til 7:30), but Saturday evening the chapel has a ceilidh. Shanty Jack is hosting a shanty workshop in the Mill from 4:00 to 5:30 Saturday. However, the woollen mill is available for singing when not specifically booked for a workshop, and there's other nooks and crannies around the site, so make contact when you arrive and we'll see what we can set up. Andrew & Carole |
