Hello everybody. I'm new here, so I hope I'm looking in the right place. I have a very well worn Vega tenor banjo neck with dowel stick. The tuners don't look original. All seventeen frets are worn. It has an ornate inlaid peghead logo and a sort of trefoil thing in the first fret with a star at the fifth and dots at three, seven, ten, twelve and seventeen. A casual internet search puts its DOB as 1924. Brace and ferule are missing from the stick. "Style M" and "TU-BA-PHONE" are stamped along with 59988 and the Vega logo on the dowel stick.
The fretboard itself is worn and the back of the neck is dinged up, maybe from leaning against something. This neck is frustrated and would love to get back to making music, but I'm not a tenor player or a luthier. Somebody gave it to me, so if you'll chip in the shipping, I'll give it to you.

Escapee-

You're a brave man to come in here and stick your neck out, especially so if it's a banjo neck.

But it couldn't get a better home than with Big Mick.

Welcome!

Charley Noble

Thanks everyone. Its nice to be here. I was afraid that neck would never be happy again. It's pot is probably out every night playing bluegrass and it never even calls
Happy Easter.

You sure it's not just trying to get ahead, Escapee?

Anyway, you're welcome in these parts.

Besides, most of us have learned to be glad we don't hear old pot a calling us anymore.

Cant run to having a Vega banjo neck, but I do have loads of bits & pieces including tuners, bridges, tail pieces etc etc plus several old necks and pots.

If anyone out there is looking for a specific part to repair or improve their banjo, get back and if I can help I will.
Does anyone know where I can find a neck for a Grimshaw banjo . I have the complete pot assembly with all its hardwareand Mr Grimshaws signature, but the neck is too warped to do anything with.
Keep pickin'
Pete

Good afternoon, all. I've been rooting around in the music pile, and I found a banjo tuner, no name, planetary gearing, and one Keith D tuner. I understand these things work in pairs, but I don't know which string this one is for. No good to me, how about you? This stuff is part of the trove that included the Vega neck in the thread title, and I'll pass it along at my cost ( 0.00 ) Toss in some postage and I'll send 'em along.
Fair winds,
SKP

Thank you ClairBear and all. No sense sitting on music stuff thats not doing anybody any good. I could flog these things forever and not find a match for them in my physical world. I found Mudcat by searching for lyrics then I was browsing through the forum and realized that I had stumbled across some kindred souls in the virtual sphere.

I received the neck today. I just want to thank you publicly for it. It is great looking and I will marry it to a proper bowl, give it a fret job, and make some music with it. I won't be getting to the project immediately, but when I do, I will post pictures of it.

Good man, ya are, Escapee. I am in your debt. And welcome to The Mudcat.

All the best,

Mick
