'jonny i hardly new ye' is a good one. 'fiddler's green' is a good sweet and sad tune and 'isn't grand boys?' is ok but you cant get more irish traditional.

[From:
A Collection of Twenty-Four Scots Songs (chiefly Pastoral) set for
the Voice, Piano-Forte, Ger: Flute, Clarinet, Guitar or Harpsichord
Written, Adapted, and Humbly Inscribed, to Mrs. Lieut. Col. Hay by
John Hamilton
Edinburgh, printed and Sold by the Author, at
Mr Watlen's Music Shop, No34, North Bridge Sreet
NLS Glen.311
1796]

Seventeenth century Scots with added misspellings. Hamilton's notes say the singer could only remember the first two-and-a-half verses, the editor made the rest up (it's pointlessly melodramatic and nowhere near as good). I'd suggest just doing the first two. The song seems not to have been taken up in later generations, but the tune has survived under several different names to the present day.

For a sad - but thankfully , short song , you cannot ignore Brian O'Rourke's - "I Loved A Lass" (I think thats the title, but not 100%)

I loved a Lass and she loved me, But alas we had to part
Now I'll go drown in the raging sea, to ease my broken heart

Ahh

An dif you want to take the time to learn and sing it, the air is the same as the first line of Cragie Hill (For both lines) enjoy!!

The Bantry Girls lament
One Morning in May
The Home I left Behind
My Own Dear Galway Bay
Skibbereen

Most trad songs are sad in my opinion, they usually have the sorrowful farewell verses
