Hello Geoff. Arriving on Monday means you'll have missed the Bothy in Southport, which is a Sunday night. However, on Monday, there's a singaround club - the Four Fools - at The Crown in Platt Lane, Worthington, WN1 2XF, just outside Standish, near Wigan It's inland a bit, but not a million miles. They do have the occasional guest, but they don't advertise them, so you wouldn't know if there was a guest or not. It's still run as a singaround, interspersd with the guest, so in the unlikely event that there's a guest, you'll still get a song. Tuesday, there's the Maghull Folk Club, at Maghull Community Association, Green Lane, L31 2JH. It's near Liverpool. Not sure what their policy is with floor singers on guest nights, but the beer is cheap! Also on Tuesday, The Everyman Theatre in Liverpool has a folk club in the basement Bistro. That's in Hope Street, just off the city centre. Run by Hughie Jones, who sang many years ago with a group called The Spinners.... To check for guests, or for other clubs a little further afield, such as Gregson Lane, near preston, (Thursday) look at the Folk North West magazine's website: www.folknorthwest.co.uk
Hoe this helps. John Kelly.

Funny you should say that Skipy, as the BothyFolk Club is situated in a golf club building and looks out over the Municiple Golf Course.

On Monday nights | run a club at the Red Lion at Newburgh on the A5209.
It's a singers night every week where people get up to do at least 2 songs and generally 4 songs (depending on numbers) from the front of the room. You'd be most welcome to come down.

Cheers
Mark

Sorry hit the wrong button! that should continue.................. dropping in to the Bothy Website to check out the diary page. On Wed there is a singing session at the Mason's Arms, Anchor St & also on Wed the Askew Sisters & Bella Hardy are on in nearby Ormskirk.
If you want good places to get cask beer then The Guest House, Union St & The Barons Bar at the Scarisbrick Hotel are the best.

Cheers

As result of Climate Change Southport is much closer to Manchester than it once was.

I have checked with the Landlord and we will all be most welcome for an evening of songs and tunes, mostly but not exclusively traditional, at the Beech, Beech Road, Chorlton, Manchester.

Wednesday 2 April around 8.30pm

Cheers

Les

Made it to the Mason's Arms on Wednesday and was made very welcome. managed to sing 3 songs before having to leave to catch our bus.
Thanks for recommending this Les B. Pity I didn't meet you there..I would have liked that. However there were a lot of talented performers there , including your mate Nev Grundy.   Hope to make it back there one day.

I've never made it to the Mason's yet, or Pete's open night on the alt Wednesdays, ( I am in a pub quiz team on a Wed). Doug Eunson & Sarah Mathews were realy good at the Bothy on the previous Sunday.
Hopefully you may make it to Southport again sometime.
Cheers

Just wanted to say thanks to Geoff (and friends) for coming over to The Mason's last week. It was great to hear you sing, and I hope you drop in again if ever you're ever back this way.

Hope you had a nice holiday.

All the best,
Rich (organiser).

www.myspace.com/richsimcock has details of the singarounds and other events that I organise under my blogs.
