Subject: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walkers' From: GUEST,everyman Date: 24 Mar 08 - 02:28 PM Timothy Neat's book "The Summer Walkers" and Hamish Henderson have both been mentioned in past Mudcat threads. I recently heard that Neat and Henderson made a film with the same title in 1976/7. Anyone know how I could find a copy? (preferably in the US) |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walker From: Jim Carroll Date: 25 Mar 08 - 03:01 AM We gave a talk about Travellers at Limerick University International Music Dept early last year where (I think) the film was shown - it was made by Neat; who was also one of the speakers. Would suggest contacting The School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh, (don't have address), or the Elphinstone Institute at Aberdeen (www.abdn.ac.uk/elphinstone One or t'other should be able to help. Would also recommend by Neat 'When I Was Young - Lost communities of Scotland and The Voice of The Bard (with John McInnes.) Haven't seen his biography of Hamish Henderson yet (part one only published so far). Good Luck, Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walker From: The Doctor Date: 25 Mar 08 - 08:41 AM I can't find any reference to a film of that name but a review came up, on www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/neat15.htm, of the book, and also another book by Neat, The Horseman's Word. That book includes stills from a film, Play me Something, credited to Jean Mohr, but on the Internet Movie Database to Timothy Neat, in which Hamish Henderson played an electrician. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available. |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walker From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Mar 08 - 10:07 AM We had our own revival of the Summer Walkers last year, and apart from the midgies, everybody had a wonderful time. Details pdf Giok |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walker From: GUEST,everyman Date: 25 Mar 08 - 01:49 PM Thanks for the information, all. I'll contact the 2 schools Jim C mentions and hope for the best. I found Neat's book via the Runrig song of the same name, and this May/June I'm heading to Sutherland to walk the song. I'll have tent, backpack, and a copy of Neat's book. Seeing to movie might help bring the landscape alive. Thanks again for your help. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Looking for film: 'The Summer Walker From: everyman Date: 26 Mar 08 - 12:49 AM Thanks for the invite! I imagine we should continue this off-thread, but I haven't used Mudcat much. I'll look through the FAQs etc to find out if there's a usual way to find your email address or send my own without bugging the entire list... (I have just joined Mudcat as "everyman") |
