My father recorded Jimmy Martinez in Spanish in the early 60's and it was a big hit for him. Marty Robbins visited the Rio Grande Valley and was on the local radio station as a guest. Through the air he acknowledged the Spanish version of Jimmy Martinez and asked to meet the person that recorded the Spanish Version.

My father did not respond to Marty Robbins request to meet him, because his fellow musicians told him Marty Robbins was going to sue him for recording the song in Spanish.   Oh! by the way the little town of Reynosa is 17 miles from the border of Mexico. My father received great reviews both on the Spanish rendition of Jimmy Martinez and on his tenor voice on the Billboard of August 1961.

My Father was a very accomplished musician and recorded the song under the MAYTAG LABEL. He was a pioneer of Mexican American Music and had many hit songs through his years in the music industry. Did radio and television performances, but in the local Music Hall of Fame
in the Rio Grande valley many of these pioneers have never been acknowledged for their contribution and my father was one of them.

I inherited my fathers song book case with all his songs and bumped into the Spanish translation of Jimmy Martinez. It is a beautiful ballad and Marty Robbins rendition was beautiful too!

Six hundred of the Mexican troops were killed at the Alamo and in the Bexar area. Names not available on line.

Eleven defenders at the Alamo were of Mexican descent. None had the surname Martinez. Handbook of Texas

Renoza should be spelt Reynosa.

The story began in Reynosa, a village in Old Mexico.
A girl and a Mexican soldier were sweethearts a long time ago.
They made big plans for the wedding. The town of Reynosa would go,
And they would see Jimmy Martinez married to Sara Cerro.
Oh, oh, oh.

One day there came a message. It said that Jimmy must go,
That Jimmy was leaving Reynosa to fight at the Alamo.
He never returned to Reynosa. The story's been told and retold,
How Jimmy the Mexican soldier died at the Alamo.
Oh, oh, oh.

Jimmy's last letter to Sara began with a message like this:
"Oh dear one, how sweet is the mem'ry, the mem'ry of our parting kiss,
I send my heart in this letter. I pray to the one up above.
Oh Sara, don't ever forget me. Stay just as pure as the dove.
Oh, oh, oh.

"I'm like the dove in your window. It's chosen just one mate for life;
And you are the one I have chosen, the one that I want for my wife."
He never returned to Reynosa, the story's been told and retold
How Jimmy the Mexican soldier died at the Alamo.

Sara refused to believe them. She prayed for Jimmy's return;
And there every night in her window, a small little candle would burn.
Years turned her dark hair to silver. She prayed for Jimmy so long;
Then one night the village was saddened. the light in her window was gone.

This is an old love ballad. I only remember one phrase - Jimmy, the Mexican soldier, died at the Almo. I really need some help. I have searched everywhere.
