Subject: Song? Blackpool lifts ban on Rolling Stones!

More than forty years after banning the Rolling Stones after a riot at a gig, the UK seaside resort Blackpool has forgiven them and invited them back.

It reminds me of when Berwick on Tweed finally made peace with Russia over a hundred years after the Crimean War.

To be banned from Blackpool would be an honour few of us could achieve!

Athens did the same (lifting a long-standing ban) in 1998 I think, and I got to see them while I was there, in the new (then) Olympic Stadium.

I don't know if Blackpool has a big enough venue for such a gig though. Can't see them performing for a thousand punters in a theatre.

I mean, even with a £100 ticket, they wouldn't gross more than £100K. I doubt Mick The Lips would get out of bed for that.

Indeed they would not gross even that. However, even if they took twice that much, they would probably end up having to pay to play. Putting the Stones on stage is a huge - and expensive - operation. I am not really into stadium rock any more, although I thought the band did a reasonable job the last time I saw them in 1990. I would rather see them in a small place too, but I am not expecting it to happen anytime soon!

A nice bit of PR on Blackpool's part, but that's about all. It doesn't really mean a whole lot at the end of the day unless there are some really rabid Stones fans in Blackpool.

Charlotte (dandelions don't care about the time)

I'll bet Keef and Charlie are packing their buckets and spades even as I type.
