Tommy Sands, Dolores Keane and Vedran Smailovic do a brilliant version of Where Have All the Flowers Gone on the Pete Seeger tribute album - but what's the pipe lament at the end, and who's playing?

The booklet of that double CD does not say anything about the tune at the end. You might eMail Tommy Sands about it, or if I remember I'll ask him on April 19, when the Sands Family are playing here in Kiel.

I'll wager it's Liam O'Flynn!

I don't know the tune's name, but I think it's Tommy playing it.

I thought it was a new album and went hunting for it in Dublin, but then realised it's two years old, so I've ordered it from Amazon.

I'm not on email terms with T Sands; if you do see him, Suzanne, I'd be grateful if you'd ask. Pass him the grateful thanks of a webby friend for this wonderful track, please, too.

Iv'e got a feeling the piper wrote this for that track. It reminded me of the Roisin Dhu track by Sean O'Riada for MISE EIRE, very evocative and poignant.

Indeed, I think that was played at my father's funeral. What can it be?

Got the CD and it lists Liam Óg Ó Floinn as the piper. Listening more attentively, it seems to be the pipes in the centre of the song, then the feadóg mhór at the end.

I'm wondering if the lament might be Flowers of the Forest...

As an Ex Scottish piper , it definately is NOT Flowers of the Forest which is probably a bit TOO Scottish for that group ! Lovely tune though !

OK. I'm working in the deepest furrows of my memory banks here!
The tune was used on an album in the '70s by the Dubliners whilst Ronnie Drew recited a poem "Se fah Mho Mheurna"(I'm not sure of the spelling).
BUT....in my head I can hear it being sung....and it sounds suspiciously like Sean Cannon!(Pre Dubs era!)
