Well - that's that then. Time to start on the 2009 Festival!!!

Thanks for the kind words, but I was only responsibe for the Morris sides, arranging the singaround, getting the campsite together and the web site!!! The rest was a team effort - Simon Temple (Chair), Neil Longhorn (Marketing and Blagging), Mark Polzeck (Finance), Keith Stockman (Concert) and Gareth Sharpe (Logistics).

Mr Barden, Mr Thompson and Mr Kenward - THANK YOU for running the singaround session brilliantly on the day. Hope the three of you can do the same next year!! Thanks to all of the singers and players who performed on the Saturday and on the Friday evening.

Thanks to all of the Morris Dancers who looked GREAT and managed to keep to the timetable - THANKS - Your are all certainly invited to next year's!

Thanks to Pete and Gina at The Cheqeurs who put up with us all!!

Thanks to Keith for sorting out the concert at such sort notice.

The pubs in the village were great. The Scouts did a fantastic job, both directing traffic and poducing some fine burgers!! The Fun Fair worked well.

Thanks to all who helped with the camp site, especialy taking down on the Sunday morning.

At this early stage, we, the committee, think that we made somewhere in the order of £2,500 which will be split and distributed between the scouts, the primary school and various groups within the village.

IMPORTANT!!!!    IMPORTANT!!!!   IMPORTANT!!!!    IMPORTANT!!!!
Skinny Richard - I have your hat which was left at The Chequers. I'll return it to Richard Bridge for you.

I also have an Ultra Guitar Stand that has black gaffa tape on the support feet. This too was left at The Chequers on Saturday night. Any idea who it belongs to. I'll be at The Good Intent Beer Festival this weekend if you want to collect it.

It goes without saying, that I would like to see you all at next year's Festival. The date will be the same - the last weekend in June.

The website will be the same - www.aylesfordvillagefestival.co.uk, so have a look from time to time to see how things are going.

If I have left anyone out from the thank you list, sorry.

Great weekend, Great Company, Great Dancing, Great Singing and Playing.

It will only keep happening if YOU FOLKS keep supporting it - so THANKS and we'll meet there again next year!!!!

Cheers

Kev The Clogs

The sun shone, sides danced, much beer was drunk, teddy bears were flung from the church tower (a nascent tradition) and there was some folking too.

More stalls and things on the field too.

Well done Kevin.

And a word of thanks to the vicar who interceded with his boss about the weather after last year's underwater dancing.

Hi Fisheye,

I'll look forward to seeing you there.

Mick,

When you come out of the station, you turn left, and it's about 10 minutes walk staight down, over the level crossing, and the stone bridge, turning left at the lights, you'll see the Chequers twenty yards up on the left.

Good stuff - that's two of the three stints sorted out - thanks guys. Has anyone heard from Bob? I don't have any contact details for him.

As for car parks - DON'T BOTHER with the two "normal" car parks. Both of them will be full by the time any of you get there, with vehicles owned by the local residents and the remainder will be from organisers and stall holders, exhibitors and related personnel. In order to minimise the flow of traffic along Forstal Road, please just go straight onto the recreation ground where you will be directed to a space by the Scouts. (Follow the signs for parking which will be clearly displayed).

Cheers folks

Kev

I didn't know there was a car park on the other side of the Medway. The ones I know of are on the same side!

Or is that the little one inside the gated park/rec. on Station Road?

Fisheye, no probs with putting your trailer tent in the "Officials and Performers" camping area - you're a Folkie and you will be at the singaround, so you qualify!!!

If you arrive on the Friday night, you can drive straight into the camping area (on the recreation ground the opposite side to the fairground that you will see from the road) - if arriving on the Saturday, the Scouts will direct you to the parking area on the recreation ground. We will then get you into the camping area about 5.30pm.

If day-tripping, agreed, drop Babs at The Chequers, BUT not the carpark on the other side of the Medway as it will be packed!! Go back to the recreation ground and the Scouts will direct you in.

Hope this helps.

Kev

Fisheye you need to contact Kev the Clogs for details - particularly whether you will be able to put your trailer-tent in the secure camping area, which is officially I think for booked Morris sides. Also it is maybe half a mile to walk from there to the pubs and I don't know if Babs can do that.

To day-trip it you will probably need to drop Babs at the Chequers and then take the car to the carpark which is the other side of the Medway and walk back yourself.

Get it up on a mapping site and have a look.

Update.

I've had a major strop - things have been done - Aylesford is STILL on!

We are getting a hell of a lot of sponsorship for this event! I'm working on a sponsor/promoter for the evening concert - watch this space!!

If any of you local to Rochester, are at a loss as to what to do on Saturday, Bishop Gundulfs Morris will be performing at The Man Of Kent (in Rochester) from 1pm. Singing and playing afterwards.

Bye for now

Kev

Growler - I'd be there getting pissed with you!! Guilt - what's that then?

Want you there as yourselves or Ruff & Reddy - doesn't matter if you are just in a session or are the "headline act".

I have a feeling that there may be some politics re the concert from my end, so I'm just chugging away sorting things out quietly!

Just another update.

Have just spoken with Pete and Gina who run The Chequers in Aylesford. They are planning on doing a Medeaval Night on the Saturday night. I checked with him and he is FINE with US LOT staying all day and all night 'till closing time!!! He loved it last year, and I told him that I can pack the place for him this year - so don't let me down!!!!!!

The concert will be taking place at the same time in the community centre. SOME of the organising committee think that the concert is the b all and end all - well it ain't! I KNOW that some people will want to go to the concert and some won't - that's why I need the Chequers sessions to be filled.

So, twelve hours - that divides nicely into four hour chunks - Could we have a representative of Travelling Folk, The Folk Mob and The Bard and Don (as a pair) running four hours each? Up to you guys which ones you do.

This is a family site, by the way - can we NOT have bad language such as LAGER please!!!!

I'll keep you posted.

Kev

Will let you know the details a little nearer the time - but it will amount to either being part of the all day/all evening session in The Chequers or it could be in one of the other pubs if they'll have us OR you might be part of the evening concert (not sorted THAT one out yet!!)

Spread the word please :-)

Cheers

As per Don, you TOO are allways welcome. That was a great day in The Little Gem. It was a bad time for me as I was spliiting with my Girlfriend AND my Gran was dying and that Saturday with you three guys was JUST what I needed and you kept me together!!!

Right! - Dinner!!!

Don - you are ALLWAYS welcome at anything that I am involved in!! Remember The Little Gem several years ago - it was You on that day with Growler and Mr Grumpy aka Mr Bridge aka Hoffmeister, that kindly accompanied me with The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - the first time that I had ever been accompanied!! That REALLY encouraged me to sing! (so it's you people will blame now for my warblings!!! Only kidding - thanks).

I am PARANOID about this whole event, Folk wise!!! I want it to succeed, and so I am SET on getting a "well known" act or two for the evening, BUT, if we can sort it out with "our people", then even better!!!

Start Easter break on Monday, so will be emailing any of the suggestions that people are kindly making to ask for availability and prices.

I didn't "do" Mudcat when we started this event three years ago, but I can see that The Cat could be the "make or break" for this event!! ALL FOLKIES in ANY shape, form, genre etc are welcome on that day/evening. If this takes off (as was the original plan, to cross it with Sweeps and the Black Horse) then it COULD become a Long Weekend event!!!).

Off for some dinner now, but will check back later.

Kev :-)

I should make it clear to the forum that suggestions do not have to be PM's they can be posted in the open. Depending on budget my immediate suggestions are: -

Wasps in the Woodshed (support slot)
Ian Bruce
Nuada
John Kirkpatrick and friends
Bluehorses
Iron Horse (are they still together)?
Peatbog Faeries
Davey Rumsey (support, preferably without his electric band)
Sussed (they have now changed their name to something else: as support - very contemporary)

Hmm, not a lot of English in there, I must give it more thought. I suppose Young Coppers are out of the question?

Just been let down for the evening concert by Megson (nice duo from up North - have supported Show of Hands - our committees fault, not theirs! So, back to the drawing board with that one. Need some WELL known talent for the sat night concert - suggestions please (especially if you have a contact - PM me please).

Well folks, it's that time of year again!!

Calling ALL Session Singers and Musicians!!!

The Aylesford Village Festival 2008 is about to rear it's ugly head again!!! Aylesford near Maidstone in Kent. Saturday 28th June this year.

There will be Morris Dancers, Belly Dancers, Irish Dancers, a Fair Ground, Teddies in The Church, Driving School Cars, Sing-a-round sessions, beer festivals, displays and a concert in the evening with Megson and Hot Rats. How does that sound then!!???

This will be the third year of this event - it started with Bishop Gundulfs Morris and St Peter's School colliding on a Saturday afternoon - the rest is history as they say.

We have about six Morris sides at the moment, but more importantly for the singers and players, Pete and Gina who run the Chequers Pub in Aylesford, will be setting aside an area of their pub ALL DAY AND EVENING for sessions to happen!!!!! Fantastic views of the river and the bridge over the river, if you feel the urge to tear yourselves away form the fantastic singing and playing which will hopefully be lead by members of Travelling Folk and The Folk Mob (Essex Girl has spoken to reps from each group and passed on my invite, but if you can't remember - I'M ASKING YOU KNOW!!!!!!).

So, put it in your diaries now please.

Keep up to date with the web site from next week at www.aylesfordvillagefestival.co.uk

Can we try and keep this thread going right up to the event? Have a good season folks, hear from you all as and when.

Regards

Kev the clogs :-)
