This mix of musicians, foundation heads, family members, etc. should make for a fascinating day. It is labeled a celebration, and tribute, and that seems to be what is shaping up. It is exciting to have the event at the Little Red Schoolhouse - Elizabeth Irwin High School. That school had very active ties with the folk music of the period.
As usual the Folk Music Society of N.Y. is operating on a shoe string. We're trying to keep ticket prices low. If you are coming from out of town, we will try to find someone to put you up if you need a place to stay, but try motels, the YMCA, or a hostel. Write to publicity@folkmusicny.org. if you need to stay with one of our members.

Having this event at Little Red Schoolhouse is exciting. Many folk musicians attended or taught there. e.g. Eli Smith, the young banjo player, is planning to come.

Please take note, however, that the event has been moved to...

Elisabeth Irwin High School
40 Charlton Street
Between Varrick Street and 6th Avenue
New York, NY 10014

While the Little Red School House (K-8) and Elisabeth Irwin High School (9-12) are both part of what is now called LREI, Inc., they are several blocks apart. Please go to the correct place.

We had a wonderful time. Total attendance was 175, and among the surprise additions were Eric Weissberg and Mickey Vandow. Mickey is Eric's longtime friend as well as an excellent guitarist and singer.

Another surprise addition was virtuoso bluegrass mandolinist Dan Holland, who joined Roger Sprung, Richard Hawthorne, and Hal Wylie in their concert performance.

Unfortunately, however, Mudcatter Kytrad had to cancel at the last minute to attend to a personal matter. Eric and Mickey graciously filled in for part of her concert set, as did Lori Holland. Filling in for the Grande Dame of American Folk Music is akin to pinch hitting for Babe Ruth. It has been done, but only rarely and with a lot of courage!
