Subject: RE: ADD: Reason to Believe (Hardin)(Springsteen) From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 05 Oct 21 - 01:59 PM Around 1965 or a year or two later, Bobby Darin recorded "Reason to Believe". It was the B-side of his single, "The Girl Who Stood Beside Me", and it was on, I think, Darin's "If I Were A Carpenter" album. People also rave about Karen Dalton's interpretation. I mention Bobby Darin as his recording introduced me to the song in the first place. |
Subject: ADDPOP: Reason to Believe (Springsteen) From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Mar 17 - 02:29 AM ...and to contrast that, Springsteen also wrote a song called "Reason to Believe." I've heard medleys of the two songs. REASON TO BELIEVE (Bruce Springsteen) Seen a man standin' over a dead dog lyin' by the highway in a ditch He's lookin' down kinda puzzled pokin' that dog with a stick Got his car door flung open he's standin' out on Highway 31 Like if he stood there long enough that dog'd get up and run Struck me kinda funny seem kinda funny sir to me At the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe Now Mary Lou loved Johnny with a love mean and true She said "Baby I'll work for you every day and bring my money home to you" One day he up and left her and ever since that She waits down at the end of that dirt road for young Johnny to come back Struck me kinda funny seemed kind of funny sir to me How at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe Take a baby to the river Kyle William they called him Wash the baby in the water take away little Kyle's sin In a whitewash shotgun shack an old man passes away Take his body to the graveyard and over him they pray Lord won't you tell us tell us what does it mean Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe Congregation gathers down by the riverside Preacher stands with his Bible groom stands waitin' for his bride Congregation gone and the sun sets behind a weepin' willow tree Groom stands alone and watches the river rush on so effortlessly Lord and he's wonderin' where can his baby be Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKYUlTXgzI I got started on this when I heard a recording this afternoon of the Springsteen song by Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem: |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req: Reason to Belive... ByTim Harden From: SSWINNEY@worldnet.att.net Date: 24 Mar 97 - 12:34 AM Rod Stewart had a big hit, but it's a far better song done as Tim Hardin wrote it. It's a quiet song, although I'm not sure it's the best song to sing to a girl friend (take a closer look at those lyrics). I used to sing this song and I still have Tim Hardin's version(with chords). If you're still looking for it, give me a shout and I'll e-mail it to you. |

Subject: Lyr Add: REASON TO BELIEVE (Tim Hardin) From: rich r Date: 22 Mar 97 - 09:17 PM REASON TO BELIEVE (Tim Hardin) If I listened long enough to you I'd find a way to believe that it's all true Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried Still I'd look to find a reason to believe. Someone like you makes it hard to live without somebody else Someone like you makes it easy to give never thinking of myself. If I gave you time to change my mind I'd find a way to leave the past behind Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried Still I'd look to find a reason to believe. [Instrumental Break] If I listened long enough to you I'd find a way to believe that it's all true Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried Still I'd look to find a reason to believe. Recordings: Tim Hardin - The Tim Hardin Memorial Album Peter Paul & Mary - Late Again Ian & Sylvia - Lovin' Sound I am sure there are other recordings also rich r https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bW6VZi0ICs |
