Subject: Kendall's next operation From: kendall Date: 04 Apr 08 - 07:42 PM Since everything else has failed to restore my voice, I am now scheduled to have another operation just after Indian Neck on May 14th. This one will consist of an implant of cadaver skin into the gap that was left when they removed the cancer. Wish me luck, this is probably the last hope. |

Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Apr 08 - 08:04 PM Karen's Dad did this if you're talking about Cymetra. Its an injectable, cadver skin based, goo that fills the space and a simple procedure they have had good success with for temporary repairs. Or are you doing something newer with the cadaver skin? All my best thoughts will be with you for a success. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Ron Davies Date: 05 Apr 08 - 08:08 AM Good luck, Cap'n. You're certainly strong-minded enough to conquer this matter. But regardless, as long as we have you, that's the important thing. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Apr 08 - 08:12 AM Thanks to everyone - I know that your good wishes mean a lot to Kendall and they certainly do to me as well. From what the surgeon told us when we were talking about procedures they will implant freeze dried cadaver skin in the hope that a) Kendall's body won't absorb it, as has been the case with the two previous procedures b) His own cells will start to grow round the implant and fill the gap naturally. His surgeon is loathe to use any artificial fillers, in view of the radiotherapy that Kendall had to undergo when the cancer first appeared. That compromised Kendall's immune system and there is always the danger that non-natural fillers could cause an infection that might ultimately lead to the vocal cord having to be removed. We saw a speech specialist in Boston last year who, as some of you are aware, helped Kendall with voice exercises that led to his being able to perform at the Getaway last November. That guy said that this type of cancer is becoming more prevalent and that there is a lot of research being done to try and restore damaged cords. We're hoping that this procedure works but I ain't giving up hope if it's not a success. I love Kendall just as he is but I know how much it means to him to have a voice restored. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: kendall Date: 05 Apr 08 - 08:37 AM You guys are priceless. I don't often laugh before breakfast, but some of your comments did it! "Dead man talking indeed". "The bolts make necking difficult" :-) |

Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Big Mick Date: 05 Apr 08 - 09:39 AM Awrighty then, it's time to haul out the big guns. Within sight of St. Patrick's Church, in the wee town of Parnell, Michigan, and just down the road from Grattan, Michigan, is the Monastery of the Carmelite Nuns of Ada (Parnell) Michigan. These cloistered Sisters are mighty in the wielding of the power of prayer. I think it is time for a visit with the Mother Prioress, and sick her on your wrinkled old ars......... ouch ....... Sorry, Mother ..... on your problem. I'm afraid the aul vocal chords really are just going to have to respond if I sic these ladies on you. But your knuckles might not survive, should you make any more randy comments about Dani............ I'm with you, as always, Cap'n. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Apr 08 - 09:55 AM Speaking of Kendall's wrinkled old ass, maybe some cadaver skin would help out there as well. Better yet maybe they just do a complete ass transplant......fix him up with some gigantic ass from someone who passed on from obesity. Maybe they could also transplant some working genitals as well or at least something that would work without both massive quantities of Mycoxaphalen (generic Viagra) and implanted hydraulics. The last time Kendall blew a line, the hydraulic fluid ruined not just the sheets but the mattress as well and he and Jacqui had to scrub down with GoJo and Lava soap. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Apr 08 - 11:20 AM Now, now Spaw - I told you to keep quiet about that! |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Nancy King Date: 05 Apr 08 - 11:20 AM Sure hope this does the trick for you, Kendall! But however it turns out, I second what Dani said -- we love you whatever the condition of your voice! See you before too long, I hope! Nancy |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Bee Date: 05 Apr 08 - 11:53 AM Wishing you the very best outcome, Kendall. Surgeons can do marvels, now, even compared to twenty years ago. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Becca72 Date: 05 Apr 08 - 12:19 PM UGH..I come in here looking for news updates on my father and what do I end up with?? 10 years added to therapy thanks to Spaw. I have read WAY too many Stephen King books to even think about the ole cadaver skin injection process...yeesh. Wicked creepy! I love you, Dad, with or without a voice but I'll still keep whatever crossed I can manage. Of course you know where I am if either of you need anything. (Jacqui will have to call because he hates the ringback tone on my phone..."Fat Bottom Girls" LOL) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: Jeri Date: 05 Apr 08 - 12:55 PM "GET ON YOUR BIKES AND RIDE!" Who said 'dead men tell no tales'?! There IS a story in that one, for when your voice returns. Of course, it's you people listen to, not the voice, but I hope to hear you singing soon, because it's what YOU want. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's next operation From: KT Date: 05 Apr 08 - 01:13 PM Go for it, Captain! Assuming the success of this procedure, I'll get warming up - we have a duet to sing!! Wishing you all the very best with this! KT |
