I've been watching Cartoons now for awhile with my grandson of 9. Then it struck me that I'm not laughing and neither is he. I like Sponge Bob but there is no laughter to be found. The Cartoons that I remember was a laugh till your eyes watered. Where are they? Do they still make them?

You missed post-deconstructionistic nihilism, Adrien. It's the new black. And the new funny.

My daughter has resorted to buying DVD compilations of the old ones for my grandson: Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, and a few others. One she bought I was kind of appalled by...it was pre-WWII and they were geared much more towards adult humour, specifically irony, plus they were full of stereotypes I'd rather not encourage. So...we look more for the later ones, i.e. 1960s-70s, maybe a few newer, but not many.

I laugh at Spongebob. I love the old Looney Toons. Elmer, Bugs, Daffy et. al. I bring them to my grandsons attention whenever possible. He wants to watch anything thats animated. Very dangerous in my opinion, since most of its crap. Kids shouldn't watch TV alone.
Grandson also loves the first season of The Muppet Show.

Where are they now, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn [ my favourite ] Bugs Bunny, Road Runner etc. I loved them all but they never get broadcast nowadays I suspect because they were very politically incorrect.

Have to admit, I don't watch much of the new stuff. Family Guy can be funny in a dark fashion.

Part of the problem is the disappearance of any form of animation. One thing that made Bugs, etc funny was the great body-language. Now everyone moves the same, or hardly moves at all.

This is not surprising since exactly zero of the "animation" is done here; it is all shipped off to Peru, the Philippines, etc, where unskilled workers, who have no idea what the "gag" is, "animate" in a strictly mechanical fashion.

Another gripe; in the seventies, many of the old cartoons were re-released, but with the violence removed! Kinda like a musical with no songs.

This is why God gave us DVDs Not only can we save the good stuff, the kids can watch them without commercials for Slutz dolls or worse.
