Hi folks. Today I recorded one of my songs in a studio with a view to getting airplay. It's about Anne of Green Gables, and I'm releasing it now because of the book's centennial this summer.

You can hear an MP3 of the song at www.myspace.com/marionparsons. Lyrics and other background notes are in a blog entry.

Also, we had extra time so my engineer and I did no-frills one-take recordings of three other songs, which I also posted at myspace. Background/lyrics for those songs will be filled in later.

Marion ... I very nice four song set. I had it playing and asked Judy in and asked who it was. It only took her a moment to say" That's Marion!" Great songs, Marion and you are doing a great job! I esp. love What He Could Give. Beautiful...brought tears to my eyes, esp. from all I remember reading about Sarajevo and the musicians there. Just listening to the last two now. You look great, too...nice picture of you!

Marion, great stuff again, worth waiting for.

It made me get the "revamped" CD out and listen again, please, pleeeeease, can you think about putting "Daughter You Must Never Say" on Myspace IMHO I think this is one of your greatest songs, anyway keep up the good work.

Hello Sandy, Kat, and whb, and thanks to you too for listening.

Yes, I'll probably put more songs up in time - it'll be a while before I'm ready to record a bunch of them professionally, but I'm thinking of renting a digital multitracker sometime this summer to get a passable version of more songs into digital form.

What I forgot to say earlier is that Bill Cameron (Mudcatter Willie-O) gets an arranging credit on Anne of Three Minutes. It was his flatpicking version of St. Anne's Reel that I used for the lead breaks.

My mother, as a small girl, went to the same church in Toronto as L.M. Montgomery who was a well-off grande dame by then. Mum says she used to come in to the service just the slightest bit late and proceed up the main aisle, festooned with ropes of pearl beads and a dead fox or two.

Great series of books. I must get this new pre-quel to see how it compares.

No, but Mum lived out on Pacific Avenue - sort of Dundas West area. I think it's all high-rises now. I'll ask her next time we speak.

Thanks Sian. I just read up a bit and found that Montgomery and husband retired to Toronto in 1935, and she died here in 1942.

Just asked my mum and she said that she (a.k.a. Mrs MacDonald?) was living with her daughter in the very posh district of Baby (pronounced Babby) Point, out Bloor St beyond Jane - around Old Mill. They went to Victoria Presbyterian Church.
