Whilst in Ireland recently I listened to a tape by a band called the Dublin City Ramblers. Although I can find other material by them, I can find no trace of the band themselves. Are they still together? Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, Sorry, But I suspect they are still in Dublin. I can't believe that we haven't a more recent sighting from some of the native contingent.

Check out the Irish music festival in Cleveland - they're one of the headlining acts this summer. There's a web page for the event, which can be found without too much difficulty.

Hope you get to see them.

Thanks Steve I will check out the web page. Being a great fan of both Alberta and Dublin City Ramblers would love to see them. Unfortunately the Atlantic intervenes. This is what is so strange, I am just across the water from Ireland, but the only information I can get is not from Ireland as you would think, but from USA and Canada. WHERE ARE YOU IRELAND? Thanks again BJ

I know this is a long shot but I just thought I can answer this one. DCR still are still around and so is Patsy Watchorn, their former lead singer. They parted back in 1995 and since most people I met are interested in the unique voice that was the brandmark of the band, I'll concentrate on Patsy. Many folks still expect Patsy to be with DCR which is not the case; I can remember a DCR gig a couple of years ago where some fellow in the crowd shouted "Where's Patsy?" and I guess that sums it up.

Basically, Patsy does have a nice web site now with a lot of information at Patsy Watchorn Online. There are all the news about him as well as a gig list, a photo gallery and lots of stuff about his new album Hearts On Fire; there are audio clips of all the songs online too. Everything over there is for free. As especially folks from the US often still assume him to be with the band, I thought this late reply still may be helpful to some.

BTW, he was playing the States this year.

And, oh yes, I'm a fan!

Hi all,
BJ,Here is Ireland: Around 1999 I saw the DCR several times in the Hartcourt Hotel in Dublin City. They were playing there every Wednesday night for free.
They might still play there from time to time. I keep you updated.
Chris

I heard from a friend who saw them in Texas about three weeks ago, and they appeared here in Tallahassee two weeks ago, on their way to south Florida I think. Well received from what I understand.

I heard them in Dallas Columbus day weekend. They were at a local high school at a show sponsored by the local Irish American Association. They had a new CD Ireland My Ireland from Lynnwood Records of Lynn Cross Mullingar. Small crowd at the show but lively. We had dinner with the band before the show at the home of the one of organizers and drinks after in a local bar. They had come in from Kansas City I believe and were heading out to I forget where

DCR is still very much alive 'n kicking. They did a concert here in Central Florida in November, and you can find their gig schedule on their website: http://www.dublincityramblers.com .

The founder and leader of the band, Sean McGuinness is vacationing here in Florida, and I'll be jamming with him tomorrow night. I'll be sure to convey the well wishes of his fans.

They got better.
They have headlined most major Irish Festivals worldwide, including the Milwaukee Irish Festival, the biggest Irish Festival in the world. They have toured extensively worldwide, and continue to do so, bigger and better every time. There have been many changes in the band down the years, but the band is now the strongest it's ever been. When asked what the secret was, Sean said:- "Firstly, treat every show and every audience with the same respect and enthusiasm as the last one, and once you're enjoying it, keep doing it. Secondly, make no room whatsoever for egos, and you'll go on forever, PG"

The Ramblers will keep playing and recording, as long as is humanly possible. Rated as the number one International Ballad/Folk group, they keep going from strength to strength. Make sure you catch them in your area.

Who Cares, Never liked them much after Patsy Watchorn Left, Now there is a singer, and just to recap on something that I can only assume is a relation of Sean's said, Sean did NOT form the DCR, Patsy, Mick Crotty and Kevin Geraghty were together as The DCR before they took in Sean, In fact Mick Crotty came up with the Name. Now all you good people that know something about music take note, Patsy Watchorn went on to a bigger and better career, after a successful 5 album run as solo artist, he is now with THE DUBLINERS, THE best Folk/Ballad Group in the WORLD. If he was a pint of lager he would PROBABLY be the best, what a distinguished voice, recognisable on all the songs on the DCR albums before 1995, the last one been the Craic and Porter Black, which actually could have been Patsy's first Solo album but thats another story.

Good question theballadeer, What did become of Mick Crotty ? I remember him from the days of Ramblers Two with Johnnie McEvoy, a long time ago.
