From: Rabbi-Sol

There are some good versions of this song on YouTube. However, because I am not familiar with the Newfoundland dialect It is difficult for me to learn all the lyrics.

Can someone please post them here? TIA

Subject: Lyr Add: GREY FOGGY DAY (Eddie Coffey)
From: Rabbi-Sol
Date: 09 Apr 08 - 07:20 PM

I finally found the lyrics on a forum called "Rare Lyrics.com"
Here they are:

Grey Foggy Day
By Eddie Coffey

Been some years ago
Since I left my island
To go to the mainland,
Like the old folks would say;
As I walked up the gangway
And I stood on the starboard
And I gazed on the harbour
On a grey foggy day.

Summer days they were warmer then
When we laughed with the old fishermen,
And they cursed when the fog rolled in,
Then they made up the hay;
It's been more than a long, long time
Since I held you and called you mine,
And we waited for the sun to shine
On a grey foggy day.

To wake in the early morn
To the sound of the old fog horn,
And wait for the men to return
With their boats in the bay;
All these things I don't see no more
When I lived on the old cape shore,
And I gazed on the boats on their moor
On a grey foggy day.

Summer days they were warmer then
When we laughed with the old fishermen,
And they cursed when the fog rolled in,
Then they made up the hay;
It's been more than a long, long time
Since I held you and called you mine,
And we waited for the sun to shine
On a grey foggy day.

And as long as my heart
Doesn't break from those old memories,
Old lover and old use-to-be,
I'll come home to stay;
I can still hear the ocean roar
Through the hills on the old cape shore,
There are no fishing boats anymore,
But it's a grey foggy, foggy day.

Summer days they were warmer then
When we laughed with the old fishermen,
And they cursed when the fog rolled in,
Then they made up the hay;
It's been more than a long, long time
Since I held you and called you mine,
And we waited for the sun to shine
On a grey foggy day.

And I pray that the sun will shine ....

On this grey foggy day.

Thank you very much GEST.

I notice that there is a midi-karaoke file attached to this song on your site that was sequenced by Marcel Alexander. However he omitted the third stanza and final chorus. I hope that Mr. Alexander will not mind if my friends at Alt.Binaries.Karaoke add these omissions to his file so that we have the complete song. I will e-mail the completed file to you so you can post it at your discretion, assuming that Mr. Alexander will agree to it.

Eddie Coffey, who wrote the song is an accordion player. You can hear him doing the song on YouTube.

If you put "Grey Foggy Day" into the youtube search engine, the first entry that comes up is a travelogue posted by Chuck Gary. It contains the complete song being sung by Eddie Coffey complete with the accordian. The words are quite clear. The scenery shots of the Newfoundland landscape that accompany the song are really spectacular.
