Sorry but i won't be there its changed too much since the first ten years when we had singing in the bar and irish music in the courtyard and the gate was left open instead of going through the shop all the time.

Its our local F/Festival but we havent been for a few years lost its appeal, BUT this year we are going as hopefully Newport folk will help to bring the life back into it, also the bars will be run by CAMERA (real ale yes) Plus having somewhere good to run those sing arounds, looking forward to this one.

Oh, how I would love to come as we're not going to the Fox & Hounds this year, but for the same reason this one would be almost impossible if we had to bring the caravan. I'll be having my left wrist operated on during the week & everything will be a bit tricky what with keeping clean & not being able to do stuff one-handed etc. Bu**er! Looks good too & I'd have wanted to support etc!

Sue Oates is the new chair now, and Tredegar House Festival is being vastly improved to a friendly and magical weekend again. We've done away with the stewards and other willing volunteers having to pay for their tickets, and CAMRA will serve a vast range of Welsh real ales again.

One of the highlights of Tredegar House Festival is foreign dance teams flying in and being put up by Newport families, with resulting friendships that can last a long time. This year we're inviting the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation (from Greece) and Taarnby Kvadrillen (from Denmark). For internet-challenged mudcatters, the mouth-watering line-up is Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, Mick Ryan and Pete Harris, One String Loose, Juice, the Dai Bach Band, Albino Frogs and Piper's Wyrd from Northumberland.

The only cloud is that our grant is being slashed AGAIN, by £6,000. However, we're not deterred; and we'll welcome you on the weekend of May 9, 10 and 11, 2008. If you come to Tredegar House, the dance displays are all free; and you can wander in the grounds and around the magnificent rooms of the 16th-century house.

Mick Tems

I was there about 10 years ago, with clog dancers Dwy Dreod Chwith, and seem to remember the Irish music in the courtyard. Very enjoyable time we had too. But I will be away on holiday, and if I wasn't, it is a long way from Luxembourg!

Listen, Scooby, this is Wales, not England. We're going to be much too busy enjoying the dancing to bother with your little nit-pickings. Tredegar House is a bloody good festival. And youy were noticably absent from the singarounds at Miskin last year.

Let me rephrase the question: The last time that Miskin did run, where were you in the singarounds?

Working as a steward else where if you want to know like mornings on the Reception as Jillie and Anna was doing lace making and other times you could not find a seat to sit down to sing as i cannot stand for long due to been disabled and it was Miskin Man's and our sons Birthday that weekend.I was out and about enjoying my son.
I use to like Tredegar in the 80's but its now completely a dance festival so don't try and make it a singing festival, even the Irish group gave up 3 years ago and went home at dinner time and thats not like them.

Sounds to me like the festival and Newport FC need positive support to help the singarounds be successful, especially when they're trying to promote them here. Looks like they're trying hard to achieve a balance, so lets try not to be negative eh?

'A weekend of international dance, music and song'

That's what it says on the Tredegar House website, and as far as I can see, upon examing the said website, that's exactly what it is. My guru is right, positive support is what's needed here. A small festival near to where I live died because potential punters and musicians were put off by the all negative feed back, which in most cases was completely unwarranted.

I wish the organisers of this festival massive amounts of good luck

cheers

As I said, Tredegar House Festival is a rare and precious event, combining dance diplays and spectacular happenings with all that's wonderful in the wide field of folk today. Don't forget the stunning Saturday specials Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, with Mick Ryan and Pete Harris on the Friday night and Albino Frogs on the Sunday - musos from end to end. Scooby doesn't know what she's missing!

Let me remind you that Sue Oates is the new chair, and a new broom sweeps clean! She's combined all that is best in Tredegar House Festival weekend, and maybe it will fill the gaping hole left by Miskin Festival as well - Andy, we sure need you!

Memo to Jon and Cats: Olly and I are really sorry that the Tredegar House weekend clashes with the Fox and Hounds festival, and we so wanted to come; but Tredegar House is our special, magic festival and we wouldn't miss it for the world. We hope you'll understand.
