Hi. Our great swedish musician Povel Ramel (1922-2007) wrote over 1000 of songs. In some of them, he mentioned Scotland, and many other countries as well.
This is the original swedish lyrics to the sång "Hante rå", which I guess nobody will understand:

This is the translated text, and it is quite equal.

Oh, in Scotland will my song sure not be of a spendthrift sort
Can'f afford, Can't afford
It takes times to write and time is money, therefore it'll be short!
Can't afford, Can't afford
I would prefer to glady sing about blue skies above
But that is dreadful tough and I will promise It costs therof
It will not have many verses, I guess two that I'll record
Can't afford, Can't afford!

My blood it has turned tartan and I'm stingy when i spare
Can't afford, Cant afford
I've got the scottish sickness as it infects everywhere
Can't afford, Can't afford
With a bagpipetrill I just has thought spendour and promote
But I lack the instument so I will then trill with my throat,
I havn't found a bagpipe on which I could play a chord
Can't afford. Can't afford.

What do the scots think about that? It is the swedes Scottish stereotype, and eventhough, Ramel has been in Scotland several times, as you can hear if you listen to the music, which is clearly influenced of Scots Folk Music. Though, it is still copyrighted.

I would be happy to hear how the scots react to swedish comedy.

I can just about envisage the Sweddish Chef from the Muppets singing this and it might be funny, but otherwise ....doggerel.

I have Scottish roots, and I like it.

I remember Alan of the Battlefield Band saying that if a dancer broke a leg, she would get a free album. "But if you break two legs, you don't get two albums. We're Scottish, you know."

I conclude that the Scots don't mind being teased as long as it's done playfully, as in this song.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.

Harry Lauder got a knighthood for propagating the idea that Scots are mean. (And Jimmie Macgregor got an MBE for proving it!)
