Chords, lyrics and MIDI at:

http://www.bright.net/~mrbanjo/letmecallyousweetheart.htm

This is a fabulous site if you like barbershop style and songs of the era.

You may also recall this song as one of the backdrops in "The Rose" with Bette Midler. A Joplin-esque character, she murmers this song several times, explaining how she learned it from Furry Lewis.

I also recommend this flick, and the title song, written by Amanda McBroom.

Tiger, I only get the wallpaper at that site using IE4 - I have no other choice. Anyone else with the same problem?

I don't own a copy but Readers Digest included this song in a large hard back volume published (maybe) 15 years ago. Don't recall the name but two other songs that I recall in it were Mississippi Mud and Dream A Little Dream Of Me. The chord arrangements for this song are quite lavish (read complex) but are quite a joy to play, and hence really easy to find very satisfying harmonies to sing by ear. The only owner I know is 1,000 South of here and not contactable at the moment. Does another Mudcatter have access to a copy?

Regards
John John

I think my mother has everything Readers Digest ever published. (Don't ask me why). I'll check the bookcases next time I pay a visit; I'm probably about due anyway.

Readers Digest had several of these. Family Songbook, I think. Large format, spiral bound, piano score and full guitar chording - and a nice song selection. I have a few photocopies of these copied from a borrowed book.

Get one if you can, they put RUS to shame. Although there are only 100 to 150 songs in each book, I'd guess, they are two, sometimes three pages per song.

If you're looking for chords to either Let Me Call You Sweetheart or (as your thread header indicates) Dream A Little Dream - or dozens of other classic songs from that era go HERE. You'll find ALL the lyrics, very solid, but playable jazz chords and MIDIs for each tune.

I was playing around today with the tune 'True Love' from High Society
and was intrigued why I loved the melody so much. I soon realised that it modulates from (say) C major to C minor. The composer has used the same(ish) musical trick in Dream A Little Dream I think.

I'd need to check but a similar approach was probably used in 'Begin the Beguine' and lots of other songs of the era?

Regards, John

The thread title made me laugh. I gave Kendall a musical mug on Valentine's Day that plays this tune whenever the light is put on. He hates it!

This is a great and beautiful fiddle tune and my fiddler and I play it quite often in the Key of (G)with guitar back up and there are a lot of beautiful chords in the tune and these chords must be made at the exact time they are suppose to be made, they can't be early or late.I will gladly post the chords, but the chords will be before and not above because I don't know how to put the chords above, that is if someone truly wants the correct chords. Also I might mention I sent katslaughing a tape with this song on the tape and she made a CD free to anyone who would like the CD,of course there are some other great tune on this CD that I'm willing to bet that half of the mudcatters never heard.Louie Roy
