Bronze strings have worked very well for me playing clawhammer style.
I think the brand was Ernie Ball. I can't say they were significantly different in tone compared to other good quality strings of similar gauge, but definely as good.
As has been said, the difference between light, medium or heavy guge is more likely to make a difference to overall tone and suitability for your playing style and instrument.

Come on Maurice. We are talking banjos here.

I use GHS mediums on my long neck 5. All GHS loops ends fit long necks. Not many others do. Deerings are the worst, GHS are the best I've found since VEGA quite packaging a long scale string.

I mainly flat pick and frail and find mediums give a nice plunky sound even with a tight top. Also they stay a bit vague longer wwith less adjustment. I have never tried Bronze banjo strings but I will try them. I just never thought of it before.

Different string materials can sound a little (or sometimes a lot) different but I've always felt that the gauge is more important (for any instrument, not just banjos). Heavy - gauge strings might sound louder but could do structural damage to some instruments. I would suggest you use the lightest gauge that works for you. Having said that, if they're too light they feel sloppy and tuning gets a bit vague. Whenever you change your strings keep the wrapper for a while until they settle in. Then if you like them (or don't) you'll know what to shop for (or avoid) next time. Good luck with your playing, it's a good way to spend time. That banjo has a lot of good tunes in it, just waiting for you to find them.

I haven't being playing long so please pardon my ignorance. I bought a set of the above-mentioned by accident. Before I restring the banjo can anyone tell me if they will make a significant difference to the sound; are they best suited to a particular genre? Thanks.
