Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: A Wandering Minstrel Date: 24 Apr 08 - 08:16 AM Hi Little Hawk, No you aren't the only one. Some of us are apparently so forgetful that we even send ourselves emails to remind us that we have naked videos of ourselves. :D I'm going round to see myself to ensure I delete said video of myself forthwith! |

Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: JohnInKansas Date: 23 Apr 08 - 05:16 PM The LATER THAN LATEST NEWEST AND BEST SPAM METHOD: 9 A.M.: DON'T FORGET TO READ ANNOYING SPAM! Spammers have now learned how to "request a meeting" on your calendar, so you may see a "reminder" to reply to your Nigerian offer or to order your bulk quantity of Viagra when you check to see when to go talk to the boss. Many email/business-management programs allow you to have an "open" calendar that others can access to schedule meetings you are expected, or invited, to participate in. In all such programs that I've seen, you are the only one who can see specifics about each meeting, but the calendar others can see shows what time blocks you have reserved, so that they can schedule a time that's available for your attendance. Usually an outside request is shown as a "tentative" reservation until you reply to the one who put it up, either accepting or rejecting the meeting. You CANNOT DELETE the entry (easily) except by replying, in some programs. Obviously, you don't want to reply to the SPAMMER who put it on your calendar. Most programs can be set to "automatically accept" all meeting offers, in which case you may be stuck with that meeting notice until the time for the meeting passes. Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo calendars have all been attacked. It would be difficult to know how many other (less popular?) programs are vulnerable and/or have seen this. The "method" actually appeared about a year ago, but has "surged" in the last couple of weeks. Thus far, all such attacks reported have been pretty simple "phishing" that are no real risk unless you click something. The calendar entry itself reportedly poses no risk unless you click something. Affected program suppliers/managers are quoted as saying "we're working on it." John |

Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Bill D Date: 22 Apr 08 - 05:16 PM Is 'pectoral disfunction' related to 'pinnace envy' for those who are adrift on the Great Ocean of Being? |
Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Apr 08 - 05:07 PM If you are at one with the One, Amos, then you are both "at sea" and "ashore". You are and are not. You matter, and you don't. ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Amos Date: 22 Apr 08 - 03:52 PM Depends on what you're talking through, I guess, FP./ Little Hawk is confused. I am not "at sea". I am one with the Great Ocean of being, which is where my rare thesaural powers derive from. But he may be too preoccupied with Pectoral Dysfunction to grasp the distinction. He needs a dose of pectin -- the pectoral equivalent of Viagra. A |

Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Apr 08 - 06:10 PM Well, like I said, GS....it wouldn't spark much public interest. In my defence though, I must say that I do look better than some my age... ;-) |

From: Mr Red Date: 21 Apr 08 - 05:25 PM If it wasn't for the fact that right now I don't get any spam to my mailbox (billgates@msn.com if the spammers are looking) and if I did I would change most of them immediately as soon as they get spammed. Now if I got a letter saying "You look ridiculous in green I would have to look wouldn't I? But they ain't finished yet. There are more tricks - dunno what they is but they is coming your way soon. |

Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Apr 08 - 04:30 PM All my spam stuff goes straight into the Bulk email folder too...but the trouble is that the odd legitimate message that I DO want to read goes into the bulk folder as well, so I still have to give it all a quick look before deleting them. Thus I get to see all the dumb messages I was alluding to. As for being filmed in the nude by someone without knowing of it. Ha! Not bloody likely. And even if I was on video in the nude...well, I don't think it would spark much interest anywhere. ;-) I'm not Angelina Jolie. I'm not Katie Holmes. And I'm not a politician. I don't have any public career for some scumbags to destroy. |

Subject: RE: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: gnu Date: 21 Apr 08 - 03:47 PM Could be. My ISP, Rogers, has an excellent Spam filter, aided by their clients. I get few. Subject: BS: The latest spam attack method... From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Apr 08 - 03:42 PM They're trying something new to get foolish people to click on links that put a virus on your computer or whatever.... I have been getting a rash of new spam emails along this general line, two or three every day, addressed to the name on my email account (let's say it's "Norcon@whatever.ca"...it isn't, but let's say it is...) "You look really stupid in this video, Norcon!" "We caught you NAKED on video, Norcon!" "Want to see yourself nude on video, Norcon?" "Hey Norcon! Have you seen how dumb you look in this video?" LOL! Man, what these people won't stoop to. They are now insulting people to get them to open a link. They figure the fear and paranoia of being caught naked or stupid "on video" will drive people to click on their link and set in motion whatever nasty thing it has in mind. Bizarre. First they tried the allure of sex, drugs, cheap loans, free gifts, and Rolex watches. Now they are trying a new form of emotional blackmail. Has anyone else been getting these...or am I the only unwilling and unsuspecting subject out there who is now supposedly "on video", even though these idiots don't even know my name? |
