We're going.
Looking forward to it.

Pretty certain that Joan, Chris and Dave who play in the band with us are going too, at least for part of the weekend.

I do believe "Fyrish" make their debut

Dave and Marj, guitar and cello and fiddle

They are an active duo around West and Sth Yorks living near Huddersfield/Holmfirth and regulars at Barnsley folk club

I am sure you will enjoy them

Ray

We was there too, Ray - but you know that!

Highlights for us were Neil Brookes and Tony Weatherall's workshop on Shropshire/Cheshire tunes and more great tunes from Neil at the session at The Farmer's Arms, and the audience at the Sunday night concert, whose enthusiasm lifted our spirits after we'd been sitting in the car two hours earlier staring at the rain and wondering why we do this...

Local band The Time Bandits, who opened that concert, sounded lovely from backstage too.

Bill Whaley and I were there too on the Sun/Mon - first time for us at Chester but made lots of new friends and great to see old ones!
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

So sorry to have missed you 'cats, Ray P., Treewind/Anahata et al.

Me & the Fiends are more informal sesh players than concert goers, & we were all kept fully occupied & entertained both doing our thing & being enthralled & delighted by the plethora of talent from all over, both by old friends & many new ones.

Also, the Kelsall bash always has so many events happening simultaneously, & none've us've yet successfully refined the cloning technique satisfactorily!

However, 'Er Indoors, Mieko the Fiddle, did get along to many've the fiddling about workshops, & also Roy C. & Neil B.'s do in the Farmers, enjoying it tremendously.

Also we were able to hear many've the concerts in the marquee as our caravanserai of benders & tents weren't so far away from there – great music & entertainment while relaxing, cooking, eating & carousing!!

For all of us, it was probably the best ever Chester FF so far & the weather deities were very kind! – particularly so on the final night following the ceilidh with 'Shake a Leg' [wot a fantastic band!!] & Ian W., the jovial but concise caller, & Emma B.'s birfday in the Community Centre along with a superb sinaround

My personal highlight of the weakend was hearing again, the newcomer Brendan [Ain't Misbehavin'] Fahey in the fringe events, with both his stunning guitar playing & phenomenal voice, having seen him for the 1st time last month at the Shrewsbury FF stewards party.

I'm certainly not alone in this impression, judging by his reception by both great & small, & I'm sure we'll all be seeing him topping the bill before too long at future events!

Yes I caught Brendan Fahey in the Social club

Graham Bellinger worked his socks off and was a pure joy! as did all the locals a big worry

of course saw Dave ~ Goldengob above! and Mary and Anahata

Cloudstreet and Fyrish

Kerfufle taught me April Morning tune (in C) ~thanks

Spent a lot of time in the social club this year, never went in the marquee

and thank goodness for the coop for breakfast

Ray

Never saw you Mr. Happy, what you look like?

A great fest, and weather was'nt too bad. That Weetwood's pretty good, but I think the Churchfitters had the edge!!

Had a wonderful time and thought the festival this year was superb.
My own highlights:

Chance to Meet ... Anahata and Mary Humphreys (magical)

Shropshire Tunes workshop with Neil and Tony which was fantastic

Sunday's Euro Session at the Oak.

The first half of Sunday's concert (Time Bandits, Anahata and Mary Humphreys, Cloudstreet) I enjoyed immensely.   I'm afraid I didn't enjoy the rest of the concert at all because it was too loud and 'busy' for me. I left early with a pounding headache!! This is just an expression of personal taste though, and not a criticism. I happen not to like folk rock at all (or whatever it should be called if I've got that wrong). Judging by the reaction of the audience I'm in a minority!

My biggest problem was that I couldn't be in two places at once.

Sorry you were poorly Mr Happy - we looked out for you at the Dusty Miller and wondered what had happened. Hope you're better now.

The Dusty was good although the noise from the bar got a bit much at times. It was a big session with lots of familiar faces but one or two new ones which is good. The two Helens and Jamie from the Time Bandits were there and they always lift any session for me - they're brilliant.

Thanks for the link to the feedback for the Chester festival; I had lost my paper copy and was wondering who to email so you're post was timely.
