Hi there - I'm new to this, but have enjoyed reading stuff on mudcat for a bit now, so here goes! Wondering if anyone might know the name of Archie Fisher's radio show in the UK. Thanks!

Ohhh yes - it's called "Travelling Folk" and you'll find it on BBC Radio Scotland 92-95FM and 810MW on Thursday's at 7pm, repeated on Saturday's at 8pm. You'll only hear it if you are within earshot of a Radio Scotland Transmitter though - so if you are much south of Carlisle, nae luck!

Ok this is getting confusing with all these felines in the "Cat". Catspaw, Katlaughing, and now Cat-a-tonic? Can't we have "Dogsbody" or "Doggiedoo" or "Dogsbreath?"
Seriously Cat-a-tonic, welcome to the Mudcat.
Rick

I wish there were more radio shows with Folk Music or sea shanties. I am getting tired of Rock and Roll. remember the good old days when people got together and sang songs without electronics? Sorry, I just wanted to post this up again. I really would like to see this music revived!

Dave.

Sorry guys, I've had a look - I don't think Archie's show is on World Service, and it's not at the BBC's website either.

Frank Hennessy's Celtic Heartbeat is also a really great show - on Radio Wales and on the BBC radio player.

And don't forget Colum Sands 'Folk Club' programme on Radio Ulster. There's so many radio progs to choose from on the WWW, how about a poll to see which is the most popular. I wonder where Mike Hardings programme would feature in the list. My two favs are Colum Sands and Archie Fisher. (how did you guess)

Archie Fisher's show is what Mike Harding's ought to be.

Thanks heavens for the WWW and "Listen Again". I listen to Archie's programme most weeks.

Where is Archie? I've checked intermittently for the last month or so and his Listen Again hasn't been updated since June 28th.

He lives near Galashiels in the Borders, I heard him sing at the Irvine Marymass Folk Festival this year in August along with Adam McNaughtan, Arthur Johnstone and Heather Heywood. He will also be singing at the opening concert at the Denholm Folk Festival in November.

To Elfcape above: that June 28 date is bogus!! The replay edition of "Travelling Folk" has been getting posted faithfully ever since Archie returned from his summer break. Even if it has a June 28 label on the link.

As long as we are mentioning the BBC radio shows: "Folkwaves," on Radio Derby, has become my steady favorite over the last year, probably due to its strong English component. Hosts are Mick Peat and Lester Simpson (of Coope Boyes and Simpson).   "Genevieve Tudor's Sunday Folk" is worth checking the playlist to see if it worth the listen; I probably listen to two of her shows out of five.
