Subject: Springhill MusicFest 1999 From: Dan Calder Date: 21 May 99 - 08:58 PM I can't stand it amymore...I just gotta tell everyone. Here in Springhill, Nova Scotia we're finally hosting our own music festival. From July 30-August 1, downtown Springhill will be the place to be. The line-up of performers includes Garnet Rogers, The Rankins, Bruce Guthro, Terry Kelly, April Verch, Barnacle, Blou, Bob Snider, Cindy Church, Este Mundo, Gordie Sampson, James Keelaghan, Katherine Wheatley, MacKeel, Susan Crowe,The Kidd Brothers, The Nova Scotia Mass Choir, and more. The finale on Sunday evening, however, highlights our own Anne Murray. I don't want to appear to be bragging...what the hell...sure I do. I think this is an event worth bragging about. More information is available on our town's site. http://town.springhill.ns.ca/ Now...everybody pray for good weather. |

Subject: RE: Springhill MusicFest 1999 From: Cat a Tonic (inactive) Date: 22 May 99 - 03:02 PM Yes, I heard there would be a festival in Springhill this summer as my friend David Woodhead will be there playing music with Katherine Wheatley and (I'm not sure, but possibly) James Keelaghan. I live in Halifax a long time ago and once went to Springhill. Hope the festival is a huge success and only the 1st of many! |

Subject: RE: Springhill MusicFest 1999 From: Tony Burns Date: 22 May 99 - 07:31 PM Dan, sounds like a great show. I'd really love to make a pilgrimage to the Maritimes one summer just to take in all the festivals. |

Subject: RE: Springhill MusicFest 1999 From: Dan Calder Date: 23 May 99 - 09:11 AM Tony, That would be a great way to spend a summer, wouldn't it? For years I've been envious of Lunenburg and it's wonderful Folk Festival, and have even made the long drive down there to enjoy the show. Then Canso developed the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, and I began to wonder what was wrong with northern Nova Scotia...why couldn't something like that take place in this region? And here we are...with a full-featured festival in my own back yard...and with the size of Springhill, it's almost in everybody's back yard. The best news, however, is that this is to become an annual event. If the Lunenburg and Canso experiences are any indication, we can only count on this one getting better each year. Enjoy the music, Dan |
