Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: EBarnacle Date: 12 Aug 08 - 10:15 AM Lady Hillary and I had a ball and then proceeded to visit friends around the great state of Maine until Friday AM. Who called for all that rain? It didn't stop raining until we hit Rhode Island to go sailing. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Leadfingers Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:42 PM Thanks for the input All ! Duly noted . |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 11 Aug 08 - 09:36 AM Leadfingers, The Portsmouth festival is much larger and established. Contact Tom Hall (curmudgeon) about available spots. Carole and Andrew are appearing this year. I hope Hissyfit will appear next. We are a few months away from setting a date for Portland but it will not be anytime near the Getaway. Mary |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Barry Finn Date: 11 Aug 08 - 09:32 AM Maybe you can make a date for that festival instead Leadfingers, last weekend in September. Portsmouth Maritime Music Festival Barry |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Aug 08 - 09:16 AM Highly unlikely to be close to the Getaway, Terry. The Portsmouth (NH) festival takes that spot and has done so for many years. Curmudgeon can tell you more about that. We're still thinking about a regular date for the future. Carole - the photos are labelled if you click in and scroll through - just look above each enlarged photo for the 'cast'. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Leadfingers Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:42 AM If its going to be an adjacent weekend to The Getaway , can SilverSmith be considered for next year ? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:40 AM Deborah - you fell down on the job! Gordon Bok was accosted by an adoring fan, older than dirt, who would not go away (no, not Jacqui). Where were you???? LOL I knew you weren't up to the job. Next year we put Tami on watch with Joey and Bandit at her side. Deborah, you were our first sponsor and I used your name to get our next two. Thank you for your generosity. But thank you most of all for your friendship. You and Tom always come through and always with grace and humor. I love you both dearly. Mary |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: My guru always said Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:36 AM So glad this thread came back up!! Just wanted to say how impressed I was with the way that you guys have managed to pull this all together. I read through the thread after the event or I'd have been sending you positive thoughts for success and good weather, but it looks like you had plenty of help and encouragement. It sounds like you've all had a lot of hard work, but also a great deal of fun & this has given you a firm footing into Next Year. Well done to all the organisers, performers & supporters! Lovely photos, by the way, but I could only recognise the Gnome and Jacqui & Kendall. Any chance of any captions? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:29 AM Deb - you were one of our best sponsors (and the first). You really are a stellar lady. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: TRUBRIT Date: 10 Aug 08 - 10:27 PM Not that the show could be better but that I could give a better sponsorship........ |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: TRUBRIT Date: 10 Aug 08 - 10:17 PM Jacqui -- you know you have a sponsor in the TruBrit Realty team -- I think we can do better next year than this year...... |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 10 Aug 08 - 12:28 PM we're both still pinching ourselves at how well it all went last weekend. By rights we should have had at least one "oh shit!" moment but we didn't. We have learned a lot from last week and are now starting to think about what will happen next year. We will choose people to help who have expertise in specific areas - we already have a few people who we know are good at publicity and whose experience will be drawn upon. We know that we can trust those people to do the job and that will be one less task for us. First thing is sponsorship. We already have a couple of sponsors and will be looking around the area to see who we can persuade to come on board as well. Many thanks, once again to all those who made it such a memorable day for all of us. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: adventure Date: 10 Aug 08 - 10:01 AM Well , it was a week yesterday since things went off in Portland. What a treat. Mary and Jacqui....you both deserve grand kudos for putting this event together. And for your hospitality over the weekend thankyou so very much....although a couple of us signed off in the wee morning hours....a great time was had by all. Hope that this can be done again next year...assistance will come quicker as people got a chance to see what went on, where it was and who attended. I got very hungry on the way home and even the rubber fish started to look good to me. No ketchup so I passed. We stopped by to sing at two other events on the way home and made it in by 10 pm on Sunday evening. This was the definite start of something good that will and can happen next year and for many years to follow. Congratulations and thanks for the invite. Lots of really good things happened to lots of good people last weekend....and thanks from "Fivebitter" too. Doryman |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: ranger1 Date: 06 Aug 08 - 02:46 PM Sinsull and Jacqui, I am most amazed at the rabbit you two pulled out of the hat. Thank you for shanghai-ing me into helping, I had a lot of fun. I will get pics up sooner or later, but probably not until next week. Ranger1, gofer extraordinaire |

Dear lady, your welcome smile and introduction was the first thing to greet me the first time I ventured into one of Sinsull's lovely concert/songcircle gatherings. Your smile is in everything you do. maeve, who collects joyful smiles |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Aug 08 - 11:25 AM I would strongly advise against planning anything for this calendar year. I'm going to be busy with the Portsmouth Festival until the first of October. Then comes the Getaway, followed too quickly by Halloween. Then comes snow season. My thoughts exactly Tom - anyway, two months is nowhere near long enough to get something like that off the ground and do it justice. I'm sure that Mary and the museum will be able to work out a good date - I like your idea about May 2nd though. |

I'm going to be busy with the Portsmouth Festival until the first of October. Then comes the Getaway, follwed too quickly ny Halloween. Then comes snow season. However, May 2 is a Saturday, and the day after the internationl holiday of the working class might be appropriate. Y'rs in solidarity - Tom |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 06 Aug 08 - 08:50 AM Spoke with the coordinator. Everything is on hold for the moment. Nothing is definite but I will let you know if and when they decide to hold an event. Mary |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 06 Aug 08 - 08:30 AM I first have to meet with my contact and see what she has in mind. This will be a museum event and not the Morse-Sullivan Road Show. LOL Thank you for all the enthusiasm - I thought some of you might yet be on speaking terms with me after the last outing. I love you all. Mary |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: maeve Date: 06 Aug 08 - 06:03 AM Regarding the Mill idea, Sinsull- I'd love to take part. October is pretty full, but let us know what comes of the meeting, please. If I can help I will. I'd like to learn your pulp mill song, mg. Pretty please? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: GUEST,mg Date: 06 Aug 08 - 02:13 AM On to the mill festival? I have a pulp mill song if anyone ever needs it. mg |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Bat Goddess Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:14 PM I looked at the photos before I went to work this morning. Hmmm...I usually don't see too many of myself because I'm usually the one behind the camera, but in this batch, I made a major discovery. Because my mouth turns down at the corners, when my face is "at rest" I look grouchy. I'm not a grouchy person!!! (Nor even curmudgeonly, of which Kendall says a woman can't be a curmudgeon anyway.) So.... I spent the day (in the car, at work, at odd moments, in the car again) practicing what FEELS like a smile, but just looks like my mouth is a straight line (at least not curved down) and lifts my cheeks (not THOSE cheeks!) and, at least, makes me look happy. Arghhh! When did my face start frowning?!? My brain hasn't been! (I'm also willing to brush off and trot out "Doffing Mistress", "Poverty Knock" , Bread and Roses" and whatever other millworker songs I know.) Linn |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Aug 08 - 07:49 PM Sinsull- Oh, dear me, the mill is running fast! My suggestion is a minimum lead-time of three months for planning and publicity, which would place the event in November which unfortunately is a marginal month for a festival. So maybe it best be done in mid-October; no sane organizer wants to compete with Halloween. I'd be happy to bounce this off Roll & Go. It would be real fun to work up some mill songs, and some general drinking songs which we already know a good many. Shove around the grog, boys, The chorus around the room; We're the boys that fear no noise Although we're far from home! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: curmudgeon Date: 05 Aug 08 - 07:33 PM Not too bad - a twelve pack of stout, a large bottle of potable wine, a hundred miles of travel,, a couple of soft shelled lobsters; a lot to choose from. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 05 Aug 08 - 07:30 PM What '$12.21'?! We owe it? We made it? Buy some wine! |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 08 - 07:22 PM Before your enthusiasm carries you away, each of you $12.21 on Saturday. LOL |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 05 Aug 08 - 04:52 PM I'd probably have to learn another song or two. I've needed to learn another song or two for a few years. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 08 - 04:47 PM LOL I love you, Tom. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 08 - 10:02 AM Another thank you - Maine Dog for your help at the festival and donations to the food table. M, at work after high drama with my car. I am more tired than I thought. LOL |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Micca Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:44 AM Jeri, I thought that pic made you look like the figurehead of the Cutty Sark(without the bare "upperworks" of course)Here |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Bat Goddess Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:39 AM Hmm...Micca didn't actually need a mirror. He's sometimes a bit casual about his seated position... ;-) Jeri -- it just looks as if someone ELSE is picking your nose... (Well, it was a VERY friendly crowd...) Linn |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:25 AM LOL Jeri |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:17 AM It's good to see what I missed with Micca, Fivebitter, Roll&Go and others. It's also nice to remember how distracting the beautiful location was, with the sails and that huge honking ship being flipped around by tugboats. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 05 Aug 08 - 09:03 AM I wanna know who photoshopped this one!!! I look like I'm either wearing a Halloween mask or my alien shapeshifter disguise is losing integrity. It might be an elbow where my nose is supposed to be, but I can't explain the eyebrow or the hairline. Next time, do some horns or antennae or something, eh? Off to look at the rest now. Thanks Micca and Jacqui. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Aug 08 - 08:39 AM I've just uploaded Micca's pics onto flickr. Same link as before. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Aug 08 - 08:32 AM Jacqui- Quick work! Our pictures are still locked in their cameras. Maybe we'll get to them this weekend. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: katlaughing Date: 04 Aug 08 - 10:51 PM Oh, yes, the kilt was wonderful, Micca, but I think they should have made you stand on a mirror!**bg** |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Micca Date: 04 Aug 08 - 10:44 PM Jacqui, you got it!! |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: GUEST,Onesuch (guest) Date: 04 Aug 08 - 09:32 PM That was a fine little festival. Such an amazing fund of knowledge so unobtrusively expressed, and singers I've admired for decades all together, all under the same overcast. What a treat. Had never heard Holly T. do a set before: that was great. And David C.and daughter was another unexpected delight. ( If you start a pool on how to spell her name, I'll go for Linnea...) Hope you can do it again, and don't try to get too big too fast...a lot of us like well-kept secrets. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: katlaughing Date: 04 Aug 08 - 09:09 PM Is that the famous Bull Mastiff pulling Deb out of the chair? I'd think he'd get TOP billing in the picture ID dept.!**bg** GREAT PIX, Jacqui! Thanks. Jeri, when did you cut your hair? I know I haven't seen a picture of you in years, but it used to be really long, didn't it? You ALL look great...love Mary's Power Red blouse! luvya'll...ktkat |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 04 Aug 08 - 08:57 PM I just put a load of photos on flickr from the day. Here they are. We downloaded a lot from Micca's camera as well but I'll have to ask his permission before adding those. |
