George Papavgeris vs. Duncan McFarlane & Anne Brivonese
Sat 17th May at Faldingworth 'Live'

A battle of three halves(????)...

45mins of the duo,
- then 45 mins of George
- and a further 45 mins of all three onstage
fighting it out, alternating a tit-for-tat set of 'linked' songs
before a big finish with all three on each others songs!

Ask (PM/email) the 'Villan' for directions/info
He'll no doubt contribute a blue clicky on here!
Hugs - D

Or, maybe you know something that we don't!

Duncan and Anne will be in fine fettle in their gigs last weekend are anything to go by - Holmfirth on Friday evening (Dunc and Anne) was a blast and Saturday evening at Raunds (full electric band) had the assembled masses dancing non-stop.

Add to that an in-form George and we're in for a superb evening!.

Les, I really do worry about you, you know! Just because you're a Backwoodsman from Lincolnshire, doesn't mean that you have to spell backwards too! Or are you just Les Dixic?.

While we're on abbreviations, we could combine Dunc and Anne to "McFab" - just about says it all!.

So, looking forward to seeing the McFab Twins on Saturday!.

Thanks Tim. Really glad that you enjoyed it.

Personally, I thought it was a great success with George, Duncan & Anne giving us so many great songs with choruses that the audience could join in with.

My thanks to all those who attended and hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did. About 80 people in the room. Great turnout.

We managed to unveil our new Faldingworth Live flag which was hand made by Sue Dewsbury (Sooz). What a talented lady. Many thanks Sue.

Also a big thanks to all those people that worked so hard to help put the show on. Gwenda & Terry for PA & MC, Dave, Barbara, Di and Nigel who do the background work in relation to the hall including the bar. Malc & Teresa for putting George & Vanessa up as well as doing the photography and raffle (Thanks Mr Sooz for the home grown organic radishes).

Ho hum and so to Saturday June 14th when we have a session from 1pm to 5pm in the afternoon and Allan Taylor in Concert 8pm. For more details http://www.faldingworthlive.co.uk

Tremendous mix of tears of sadness and laughter. I'm still humming Robin Hood's Bay, while giving a nod to George's Dad and Duncan's Grandad.

What a memorable evening! The best evening out I've had for a very long time. George, Dunc and Anne were superb, great talent and wonderful entertainment. Can't wait to see them again.

Can't get the pigeons/angels circling out of my head Dunc, I even cried telling Mrs. Backwoodsman about it this morning! What a big softy I am, and what a great song it is.

Once again, thanks for a fantastic show guys, you were brilliant.

Aw, bless ya JB, a softy, just like me!
In fact, the man himself, m' papa woulda called me a 'big Jessie'
for sobbing! He was a grand old chap, though, as I hope the song put over.

I only partly explained last night in it's preamble...
I did say most of this bit...
Wrote it one morn this week (after ten years of trying to encapsulate the fella in a song!)
Practiced it on and off all day...
Sang it to Lady P on her return from work...
broke down uncontrollably two verses from the end...
Had a cuppa and a chat - tried again...
broke down uncontrollably in the last verse!...

I didn't say...
Took it to Otley Folk Club for a 'test run' whilst doing a floor
spot for John Kirkpatrick...
Warned audience I might not get through it...
Got through it just fine...close call though...
...but only to find a lady on the front row has burst into tears!
(Yeh, yeh - some wag will now write on here 'Surely you can't be THAT BAD Dunc!')
...but at least, after Faldingworth, that's twice now I've made it through the song!..
And actually quite happy it's having the right effect! Phew!
Bless ya JB.

I think I can add this one.

Barbara Longden (Chairman's wife) brought her sister and her husband along for the very first time and definately not folkies. In the main interval, I was chatting to them and I asked if they were enjoying it. Barbara's sister said "It's great, we are really enjoying it and I have to admit to opening the floodgates when George sang (I think) "Memories". I assured her that George has this influence on women as well as some Jessie's (LOL). Anyway she asked me if George had recorded it. So I took her over to Vanessa who flogged her the CD with it on."
I think she was smitten.
Anyway above all, the DAGateers managed to impress them so much, that they want to come back.
Now thats an acheivement. So well done Duncan, Anne and George.

Yep, George's song had me going too!

The emotional range of George's and Duncan's songs was sensational, and an object lesson to us mere singers of other people's songs.

Three magical sets from three wonderful performers - more please, more!

JB

PS - and great MC-ship and sound from The Cater Twins, well done Gwed and Teknikal Tel! :-)

Dear Les
just a message to say we had a fantastic night on Saturday. Duncan was great - he even played a song for me in the interval as he couldn't remember it well enough to perform on stage! I've completely revised my opinion of George Papavgeris's songs - I'm quite hooked now. What a lovely man. The finale was absolutely stonking - great stuff!
See you at Southwell!
